Is this dvd drive dying?

I have a sony dvd burner DW-Q28A it came with a vaio vgc rc-110g that has become a huge pain... it will not write to media other than sony's disks.

I was able to use other disks before but after repeated trips to the store.. I have found that the drive only writes to sony media (dvd's only --- cd's still write fine). I have heard this from other sony owners too.

Does anyone have any ideas on why this happened or how to fix it?

DVD burners are so cheap now, under $40 I'd get a new one. Personally, I like LiteOn and NEC

Lite-on is the best for cheap drives (they are not cheap products).
