Question Is This "Normal" For A Gen4 Crucial T-500 2TB Or Is It Defective

Replaced Gen3 Samsung 970 Evo Plus 1Tb drive with this Gen4 Crucial drive since my new build supports Gen4 & Gen5. Figured it would move video files around faster. Using it as a secondary data drive. Put the new drive in the same slot that the old one was in.

As a test before switching, Wrote / copied a 70 GB file to the Samsung and it took 3 minutes 4 seconds. Switched to the Crucial and did the same test, and much to my surprise, it was slower...way slower. It took 10 minutes 21 seconds.

Going to return it and try a different drive. Does anyone have "real world" experience with a drive that has a better sustained write rate??? I don't fully trust the test sites on the web. Thanks in advance.

Sig space specs can and will change over time and when that happens this thread and it's relevant suggestions can and will be rendered moot tot he end user in the same boat as you're in now.

That being said, what is the make and model of your motherboard? What BIOS version are you on for said motherboard? You might want to see if Crucial's Storage Executive app sho wsany firmware pending.

Have version 10.07 latest does not function correctly, both my Crucial T705 and the T500 come up with an error.
Thanks for the reply, but realistically believe it comes down to the drive itself.

If you mean you think that the Crucial Gen5 drive is fundamentally 3x slower than the Samsung Gen4 and the test sites on the web are covering this up or failing to measure it, I say you're very wrong.

NVMe drives and motherboards are bizarrely finicky. That's why the manufacturers publish compatibility lists. Not appearing on the list doesn't guarantee a drive won't work, but the fact these lists exist for pretty much every motherboard means there are often issues. The 970 Evo Plus 1 TB is in the list for your motherboard; so is the T-500 Pro, but not the T-500. I suggest exchanging the T-500 for a drive that's on that list.

Write caching enabled on the t-500?

When I said "I don't fully trust the test sites on the web" No I don't think it is a total coverup. To clarify, these sites are sponsored by the manufacturer to test their product and give it a review. Now if your lively hood depends on this, would you not be inclined to post a "kinder less critical review" is what I meant. I apologize if I offended, not trying to get in a pissing match.
