Is this potential budget gaming pc setup good? (~$500)

I'm building my first pc, and I want to keep the budget around $500 excluding the monitor and os.

My build:
AMD Athlon II X2 250 Dual Core
Geforce GTX 465 1gb
ASRock M3A770DE AM3 AMD 770 ATX AMD Motherboard
4 GB DDR3 1600
1.5TB HardDrive
600W PSU

I'm not very knowledgeable when it comes to pc components. I've checked for compatibility as best I can, but I would like to know if I missed anything.

But beyond that, I want to know how this machine should perform. What components will be bottlenecks? Are there better compnonents for around the same price? Should I make a sacrifice in one area to get a better component in another area? Stuff like that please.

This is not a good $500 gaming build whatsoever. If you are buying a $500 gaming PC, then you need a 4 core AMD system minimum.

Here's an alternate Sandy Bridge Based Solution :

CPU & Motherboard: $165-i3-2100 & Biostar H61MH (Great processor & decent motherboard lacks USB 3.0 & SATA 6GB/s)

RAM: $35- Gskill NS (2X2GB)

Power Supply: $45- Corsair Builder Series CX430 (Decent 80 Plus certified power)

Graphic Card: $175- Sapphire Radeon 6870

HDD: $40- Seagate Barracuda 500GB( Same as r0aringdrag0n)

Case: $35- Sentley Black

Optical Drive: $19- LiteOn

Total (Excluding Rebates) : 514 USD

Rebates: 30 USD

Does he really need a card like that? I mean a 6850 would do fine, even simply a 5770 there so much cheaper than ever and are just awesome cards, justing putting it out there. What games do you plan to play?

I don't have anything modern right now because I don't have a machine that can run anything well, but I want to eventually be able to play skyrim and battlefield 3 when they come out later this year.

Yeah a 6850 would play that fine, but the 5770 is also cheap and best for performance, I mean even a 240gt which is WEAKER is the same price and the 5770 is better.

So what will the sandy bridge solution do compared to the Phenom II x4?

Will the build with the better cpu (the quad core) or the build with the better graphics card be better for the games I said? The monitor I think I'll get is 1920x1080.

Cons: will not overclock, will not perform that well in multi-threaded tasks

Pros: great for gaming,better architecture (i suppose), lower power consumption
