While I wait possibly many months for the components of my desktop build to come back in stock, I want to upgrade the RAM on my Dell XPS 9560. Currently running 8GB, looks like it can take 32GB 2400MHz DDR4. From the videos I've watched, they are simply removing the bottom cover, removing the old RAM, installing the new RAM, closing the cover, booting up, and away they go.

Is it really that simple? Nothing else to worry about or do before/during/after?

Looking at Crucial 32GB Kit (16GBx2) DDR4 2400 MT/s (PC4-19200) 260-Pin SODIMM Memory - CT2K16G4SFD824A

Yes

You might want to make sure you're on the latest BIOS version prior to adding any ram or storage as an upgrade over your existing hardware.

According to this, your laptop has 2x SO-DIMM slots and the maximum ram supported by said laptop is 32GB's. You should be looking for a 2x16GB DDR4-2400MHz 1.2v SO-DIMM ram kit or two identical sticks of DDR4-2400MHz 1.2v SO-DIMM rams.

If you have access to Amazon, pick this up;

Noticed your edit.
Or any kit from this shortlist;

Thanks! That was the kit I wanted but it was out of stock on Newegg. Just ordered from Amazon.

As for the BIOS update, I'm having trouble with that. I am currently running version 1.23.1 On the Dell website, I can download the update to version 1.24.0

I have done this 3 times now, with all the auto-restarts during installation, and even manual restarts afterwards. But I'm still running version 1.23.1

I must be doing something wrong, but it seems pretty fool proof and straightforward. Although, there is a bit of an oddity:

On the website, after I search for available drivers for my system based on the service tag, it shows 1 critical update available: BIOS 13.18 MB Installed version 1.23.1 Latest version 1.24.0

I click Download & Install

It runs through "preparing download", then "downloading", then "installing".

Then it shows "Status: Restart required"

So I restart my laptop, even waited about 20 minutes after the last restart, then checked my version. Still 1.23.1
