Is Upgrading to GTX 1070 Worth it?

So I am kinda on a budget here just so you know first. I have a AMD R9 380 GPU.... Now I have a I7-4790k at 4.0 Ghz, so I think I am fine here. I want to get the GTX 1070 FE for really 1080p gaming at 144hz. My only problem is that from bench marking websites, its really only about a 40-50 FPS difference. So I thought about getting the Gigabyte GTX 1080 F3oc. Its about $100 more than the GTX 1070 FE. My question is, is it a good idea to upgrade to a 1070 in the first place for that much of a boost for 1080p 144hz gaming and do you think the GTX 1080 is worth around a $120 more for that much performance as well.

Coming from an R9 380, and with the goal of gaming at 1080p/144Hz, the GTX 1080 is a better buy and is worth it, for the increase in performance from your old GPU, and the intended resolution/refresh rate you will be gaming.

Moreover, prices of the GTX 1070 AIBs (non-Founders Ed. GPUs) are high (cost the same price range as the GTX 1080 model you selected, or even more).

I would personally get the GTX 1080 over the GTX 1070 FE, for 1080p/144Hz.

Your first card is sold out the 1070. With all the miners these days cards are way overpriced below the gtx 1080 level unless your buying a 1050ti.

1. TPU puts the 1070 at at least 2.3 times as fast as the 380.

2. I can not recommend any FE card. Not that that card is actually "not available" so it would appear that that promo is over. The AIB cards will add as much as 20% to that when overclocked.

3. The 1080, like the 980 before it has become the "middle child" that everyone forgets about. However, with the mining activity, 1080 prices have remained stable while 1070s have climbed ... so right now things have changed.

The gigabyte you linked to is $509 ... the 1070 version of that card is $434. That's 17% faster for 17% of a price increase.

So from a price / performance ... a good argument can be made for either. What makes the most sense will ultimately depend on what games you play ... and what you play them on. Playing a game on a 144 Hz monitor like the Asus VG248QE and using toastystrobelight to provide motion blur reduction will pay higher dividends than say an Acer XF240H
