Question Isn't this an unusually high board power draw for an 8GB RTX 4060 ?

My 8GB ASUS Dual GeForce RTX 4060 EVO OC Edition reports around 52W board power draw during idle. I have checked that my GPU is really at idle state: GPU and memory controller load are very low (0-3%), as are the clocks (200MHz GPU/100MHz Mem), and the fans are stopped.

I'm running the latest Geforce drivers to date (566.14) with every setting at default. No overclocking. I have checked power management mode in 3D settings and it's on "Normal".

UEFI BIOS is up to date. Resizable BAR is enabled and working. ASPM settings are on default.

I'm a bit puzzled, how can it be possible? My former GPU, a GTX 1660, had a board power draw of 10W at idle, it had no fan stop and temps very higher. Besides, when I run a light Unity game, as Pillars of Eternity, for example, the board power draw only increases about 3/5W: it has no sense, it should go up considerably higher than that. And when playing something really demanding, like Alan Wake 2 on high settings the max power draw is around 115W, what it should be, no more.

It has to be some kind of driver bug, right?

How is "idle" defined?

Keep in mind that when it comes to "power" component manufacturers do all they can to present "low" power results while PSU manufacturers do all they can to present "high" power results.

Sometimes it appears that there are deliberate efforts to mask out and otherwise avoid presenting meaningful specs.... Either by completely avoiding the mention of such details or be creating new "terminology" to make things appear better.

No problem with questioning the results per se. Although there could be some concern or question about the accuracy of that 52 Watt measurement....

Overall, if the system is performing well, then just leave things alone and do not start tinkering to try to change the wattage.

As for a possible driver bug - perhaps. Just keep an eye on the applicable GPU forums and FAQ's: others may be reporting similar problems/issues/concerns......

If anything simply get a Kill-A-Watt meter to monitor the PC's power use.

Yeah, everything is working perfectly fine. I have been confirmed by other forums that this issue is, indeed, a known unresolved driver bug. I will simply ignore the "board power draw" reading and that's it. If gpu usage, temps and clocks are very low it's idle, no matter what other sensors say, right?
