I think one could make a good case for these "powerful" superheros as being
sexy as well. A lot of women like that kind of thing better than sunken
chests and huge guts.

Nope, I can't speak for ALL women but I don't find body builders sexy.
Ok to a point they are. A man who is lean, well muscled is sexy. But
the pro body builders with the huge bulging muscles? Nope, ick,
grotesque. I at least find all extremes in men severe turn offs. I
like a guy who is in shape, who when he lifts something heavy has some
muscles show on his arms but that don't stand out constantly. Make
sense?

Most super hero men are really too bulky for my taste though they can
have very handsom faces. (And women probalby key in on faces more than
men.)

Nor should they, really.

No offense, but you don't read superhero comics. Not in numbers comparable
to males.

Both superhero male and superhero female bodies are *male* fantasies.

You'd have to go back to the 40's.

When comics started, I'm pretty sure boys would automatically be seen as the
audience. Superhero comics evolved from the pulps and were an adventure
medium. The times being more patrician, girls wouldn't be expected to have
any interest in adventure stuff. They were all being prepped to be Susie
Homemaker. There were comics targetted for girls, but not superhero comics.

Sure... like women don't dream of having large breasteses and dating
hunks. There are people who make 7-figured salaries simply because of
those *female* fantasies.

Well, the point is that the body designs are based off of male ideals
of what's attractive. Female ideals aren't the same, really. As
another said in this thread, a good many women find the bulging
muscles actually grotesque and UN-attractive (THough, being in shape
is desirable, that's just too much)

The things that WON'T be in the new update... no new arcs, no new zones,
no new zone events...

Basically, yeah, this one isn't going to have a lot for you. Most of the
content in I4 seems to be involved with the Arenas, the only non-arena
content is the costume options.

Can't win 'em all. Issue 5 will be around with a shiny new zone soon
enough.

Well, when you get to levels 20, 30, and 40, you get this thing called
an "alternate costume slot". You can then go to the tailor and make up
a change of threads.

Not really. But for those of us who like or think we might like those
things, it's enough. :)

Personally this is a big deal to me.
Some of my toons have changed costumes multiple times while other never
changed.
Some had alternate costume wildly different from the original while
others (like my inv/em tanker) only have slight differences between the
main and alt costumes, like color/pauldrons/cape design).

Even if you got your look the way you wanted, is it really "just right"
or as close to "right" as you could get with the existing options?

It's a virtual guarantee that I'll be able to *improve* many of
my characters, especially those who wear more casual clothes.

Plus, the sliders may allow for some really interesting and
effective body types.

I believe this will improve everyone's game.

This one, on the other hand, will be nothing but trouble for

The thread above noted some nice changes to the low Teleport

For me, I don't like the fact that, currently, I can't make a "normal"
looking character. Where are the glasses?? I want labcoats/trenchcoats!! I
want to give my huge-sized tanker a potbelly!!

I am actually looking forward to this. Never done PvP before, but am
currently in a sg (Simian Defence Force) that is probably going to get
quite a few invites for battles in the arena. Should be interesting. I also
look forward to it because it is through the Arena that all of the power
balances for PvP will get done, as well as the datamining for City of
Villians.

Uh...check the face options. There are plenty of glasses. First 6 or 7
options in "Detail 1", as I recall. And, as for "normal" looking?
Jeans and TShirts have been in since day 1 as well... As have jeans
and baggy sweatshirt-looking shirts. And business suits. The majority
of my heroes have, in fact, looked quite normal.

IIRC, most of the glasses options are sunglasses and the like. I am talking
about prescription glasses. (I may be mistaken, it has been a while since I
have made a character).

As for normal, I am not talking about normal clothes, I am talking about
normal body shape. Not rippling muscle, a bit of a pot-belly, that sort of
thing.

Sorry for being unclear.

You can easily change the tinting on the semi-transparant lenses so
they look like normal glasses.

Perhaps you missed it, but this is a comic book superhero game. A
"pot-bellied superhero" just doesn't fit the genre. Yes, there may be
a few, but they tend to be obscure exceptions.

There are a few "glasses-like" glasses, although you may have given up
scrolling through the many sunglasses/goggles options before getting to
them.

Apparently options for tweaking bits of the character's build are
coming with Issue 4 along with the costume options. It's not clear yet
precisely what will be tweaked, but it will no longer be an
all-or-nothing axis like the current creator.

You pick one of the sunglasses that are frame+lense and color the lenses
white - presto, normal glasses.

You must have seen someone wearing them - people have been doing normal
glasses since release.

>As for normal, I am not talking about normal clothes, I am talking about

Not really possible now, though you can sort of look less muscular if
you use the baggy top option on an athletic normal male model.

That's what I tend to do with the Anime-ish gals I make, jeans, baggy
top, large gloves/boots - makes them seem a little less curvy.

I am SO looking foreward to proper body sliders.

Well, this is the selling point for me (except that it's free!). I'm
playing in an otaku supergroup (Zutto Yume Mamotteru, on Triumph) so I
should probably start exemplaring now to save up the influence for a trip
to Icon. Too bad we can't do the body type changes to existing characters
as well. Still, it doesn't affect gameplay much - after a few days it
will be as if it had always been there.

Hate PvP. Hate it forever.
Now the "tuning" of the powers for PvP is sure to begin, and thus the
de-tuning for PvE. This will only accelerate during the CoV beta, and I
cannot imagine any way it won't leave the game worse off than it was last
April. To the best of my knowledge, no software company has ever managed
to make a game perfect for PvP without sacrificing PvE somewhat. (CoH is
better poised for it than anyone else, since the villains are supposedly
human too for the most part and could have the same powers and an
artificial intelligence designed from actual PvP experience ... but I
still doubt it will work that way.)

Are we sure about that?
Will the new body sliders only be in the editor pre-costume with the
current height/build or will they be in the costume part?

I would think that they would fit well in the costume part - you can't
really change your height/basic build, but you might gain/lose weight
over time.

I think that it's quite likely they will be able to do it fairly well.
The current system already modifies attacks based on mob type and
resists so they _should_ be able to make PvP just another mod to the
attacks leaving PvE unchanged.

Lets hope anyway, since I too have less than zero interest in PvP.

The sliders for body-shape are planned to be available at Icon.
You still can't can't your basic body type or height, though.

Hmm ... perhaps the new Anime themed issue will have the Ranma effect ...
I doubt it, though. On the other hand you should be able to make
gender-ambiguous characters. Although I'd be satisfied with male cat-ears

But none of those exist in the Paragon City 'world'.

The only shapechangers PC has are werewolf/warwolf mobs and Kheldians
with energy forms.

And a good thing too. Imagine a player-created movie showing a Bruce
Banner clone changing into a Hulk clone. Imagine Marvel's lawyers having
it. No, let's hope there is no such change.
