Hello,
I've tried to update my driver for my GPU (MSI Twin Frozer III HD 6950 2GB) to the newest available 8.850.6a) , but while the driver is installing the output goes out.
To get the image back I have to boot in safe mode and roll back the driver to the original.
I've tried using older drivers from Catalyst update 11.3 and same issue.
I have contacted MSI and they told me that the card might be bad and I should return it or RMA it.
Can anyone lend a helping hand?
I don't think the card is bad, maybe just not working with the current drivers.
Any thought or opinions?
Thanks everyone.

Solution
Uninstall your current drivers, then use Driver Sweeper under safe mode to remove ATi driver leftover files from your HDD, then download and install the latest driver.

Are you using the driver that came with the CD?

Yes, I installed the drivers from the CD, originally, then I updated to CCC 11.5, it gave me no output (but I did have sound), so I rolled the driver from safe mode. Did this a couple of times.

I will follow through with your recommendations, and update the thread.

OK, I am back with an update, problem fixed.
Here is the long story in case it will help anyone else.

After a couple tries of installing the 11.5 updates and the screen going blank, I decided to let Windows Update try and install the vga driver on its own. It tried but same result; blank screen.

So I rolled back the driver once more, and posted here.
I followed wiinippongamer's advice and uninstalled the drivers, ready to run Driver Sweeper in Safe Mode.
F8 didn't take me to the boot screen, so Windows booted normally on generic vga mode.
While my desktop was loading up, Windows said it found new hardware and was installing driver from files previously downloaded.
before I could stop it, updated driver 8.850.6 was installed and no blank screen.

Ran Catalyst Control Center 11.5 update and everything went flawless.

Thanks for the help wiinipongamer, I'm assuming the old driver was messing with the install of the new one.
