I am encountering a strange issue with Steam and possibly my PC in general. Whenever I download a game on Steam the download starts out at 20MB/s but quickly starts to degrade to about 10MB/s. After about 10-15 maybe 30 minutes the speed degrades further until it's in the KB/s. Eventually the downloading ceases entirely. If I restart my computer I can continue downloading like normal for another 15 minutes. If I leave my PC on over night while trying to download on Steam eventually Steam stops responding. In addition I will notice that my PC is no longer connected to the wired ethernet connection. If I try and connect wireless it also won't work. After restarting the computer everything returns to normal. I have to restart my computer 3-4 times to download a game that might be 80GBs because it is pretty much impossible to download it entirely without the download speed degrading to the point of uselessness.

As I type this message the game I am downloading on steam is downloading at 5.2 Kb/s however if I run speedtest.net my internet is at 180MB/s down and 11MB/s up @ 11 ping. In general internet seems to run fine on the computer until I leave it on over night in which case I will have to restart the entire computer to get the internet working again. I don't think it is my router or modem since neither has changed and my wifi internet on my phone works normally.

I just built this computer so my first guess is something wrong with the network adapter on the motherboard. This is the motherboard that is installed: https://www.newegg.com/p/N82E16813144302?Item=N82E16813144302

Ram is 32GB
CPU is Intel Core i9-10850KA

did you install the msi lan manager?
latest bios? update network driver?
I tried finding that lan manager but it appears it cost money?

checked the bios and it appears to be the most current one but I reinstalled it anyway. So far the problem seems to have finally stopped. We’ll see.

thanks for the info.
