Question Issue with Phanteks DRGB LED ?

Hi!

I wanted to ask if someone has any input on an issue that I have with my Phanteks Premium DRGB Lighting Kit for the Phanteks NV5 Mid-Tower Case.

The LEDs kind of flashes, some parts more than others. The behavior changes over time, after rebooting only some parts of the LED is flashing but after a while more and more of the strip starts to flash. I've checked all the connecting cables and they look good, nothing changes when trying to "joggle" the contacts to see if there is a connection issue.

I'm wondering if it's worth trying to replace the LED kit or if the problem might be something other then that?

For reference, this is the LED:

And I'm using this moderboard:

Here is a video of how it looks:

Any input and pointers on things to try would be very much appreciated, thanks a lot!

that kit is specifically for that case, where does it plug in? I assume into the RGB controller that comes with the case?

confirm this is your mobo, it only has a 12v RGB header, not the needed 5v DRGB header

https://dlcdnets.asus.com/pub/ASUS/...0_ROG_STRIX_B650E-F_GAMING_WIFI_UM_V2_WEB.pdf

so I'm assuming that the case has a built in DRGB controller, Phantecs stuff usually does, and none of that is plugged into the mobo, if so it should just work as designed. Your fan RGB is stable, if it wasn't for the unlit areas on the strips I would just assume the controller is faulty, but the whole strip should be lit, maybe try contacting Phantecs customer services? because it looks like either the controller or the strips are faulty

Hi!

Thank you so much for taking the time to help!

As I understand (it was a pre-built computer), the tower comes with som built in strips and then there is an additional kit that is an ass-on to the case.

Yes the mobo is ASUS ROG STRIX B650E-F GAMING WIFI.

I guess/think (need to check) that the fans are/should be connected to the mobo and not Rgb controllers right?

So I should probably:
- double check that RGB is not plugged into mobo. And eliminate that as a Source of issues.
- dissconnect the kit to see if the built in controller and Rgb-strips works when the kit is not connected. If the built in works its probably somethkng sting with the add-on.

Do you think this approach make sense?

no problem :)

the fans will be connected to the mobo, but there's two options, either the lighting in the fans just does what it does and can't be chanced because it's powered from fan power, or more likely the fans have two plugs, one for rgb that's plugged into the case controller, and the other for fan power that's plugged into the mobo

if you've just fitted the strip kit and plugged it into the case, and not plugged anything into the mobo yourself, and it was working before, and you followed the strip kit's fitting instructions etc... it's most likely that the kit is what's at fault here, it's designed for the case so the controller that came with the case should be able to drive it no problems, it should just control with the same pattern as all your other RGB

yes disconnecting the strip kit to see if everything goes back to how it was before is probably a good step to try

also:
...there is an additional kit that is an ass-on to the case.
^best typo ever!

[edit] this must be the kit you have?

might help you check that you've fitted everything correctly because I looked up the manual and it's terrible

Hi!

Haha =D I blame auto-correct, but it turns out that the kit was probably not a "ass-on" =)

Spent some time yesterday testing a lot of different, including:

* Disconnected the mobo to see if the controller that came with the tower (you're right about that) worked when the mobo was not involved. Same problem when everything was controlled by the controller in the tower.
* Disconnected the add-on strip, since the blinking LED is the one that was built into the case. Still the same problem when only running the built in controller and the built in strip.

I knew that some of the outputs in the built in controller worked (since they were connected to the add-on kit) so I also thought about switching the outputs and move the built in strip to another output, but the connecting cables was different so I did not try that.

I've reached out to Phanteks support for the same info as above and they came back with this:

If all of the LEDs are flashing then it is most likely a defective DRGB controller.

I kind of share that conclution, either the built in controller or the built in Strip. So I think I'll start the process of trying to get that replaced.

Thanks a lot for taking the time to share your knowledge and help me out!

Cheers!
