It is possible to find files without backup

Hello,
It is possible to recover files without backup?

An IT technician told me since my backup is not running from June 2009 I lost all the files I am working on since that date. It's that true? Exist another program or software can help me out with this issue? Please advise.

If the drive you stored them on is ruined, its not possible, if the drive is good it is possible, if you formatted the drive and are using it the files are being written over, and they will be destroyed. As long as the drive works and hasnt been written on, the odds of recovery are great.
