[citation][nom]Ninjamonkeh[/nom]I can update that I have been trying to connect to any of the servers since 2pm est its now 3:30pm est and im stuck in a endless loop of it saying its checking for updates even though it says 100%. If your on the fence about buying this game , wait a month or 2 , or better yet get any other non EA game from STEAM. I can guarantee Origin is crap , and EA doesnt care about you after you give them your money.[/citation]
why would you recommend that people should buy "another EA game"

nobody should support those b@$tards

[citation][nom]d_kuhn[/nom]I enjoy the sim city series... but I'll be waiting for the bargain bin sale (either that or an offline mode that works).[/citation]
buy the time this is in the bargain bin the servers will be taken offline and the game will be worthless because you won't be able to run it

social benefits.......

We are gamers and social benefits would be near the bottom of reasons for us to play any game. Besides, when we are spawn-camping/map-hacking/jump-crouching, we are socializing... r-tards.

They lost me after they accused me of sharing my D3 password. All I did was visit their auction house and the next day, all 3 hours played of my gear was gone. I think I was the lucky one TBQH.

Its only logical that a pirate should have a better and smoother gaming experience then the paying customer.

I applaud EA on their determination to drive away every last honest gamer they had. Its a brilliant move, right there.

[citation][nom]Abion47[/nom]Then you need to check the charges on your bank accounts more often. EA charged for pre-orders the second the orders were made.[/citation]

Yes, chief. The way I know they got my money yesterday was psychic powers, not buy checking my bank statement. What kind of retard would argue when I got charged for something?

I don't care about having to play online and always be connected because my PC is always connected to the internet so that doesn't bother me. But what was making me FURIOUS was that I sat in the "queue" for the 20 minute countdown 3 times last night and after over 75 minutes of waiting finally had to go to bed without even playing.... Now that pisses me off... EA really needs to add about 10 more North America servers...
But on a positive note I was able to log in Tuesday morning and played around for about an hour and it really is super fun.

Whatever happened to if you build it they will come (or buy it)? Publishers allow marketing to dictate the game's development process to the point that it becomes a hindrance to the creative/fun aspect of games these days. No wonder some of the most fun games I played recently were indie titles.

[citation][nom]drinkingcola86[/nom]Things to understand about this DRM...If servers are down, there is nothing we on the consumer side can do. The calculations that are done on the server side are this, every sim in the city, every car in the city, electricity, water, sewage, fire, crime and health are all performed on the server side. SimCity 4 started with the pc side simulations with the cars which were always being updated. The things that weren't being simulated were the fires, water, disasters, healthcare, and others. Most of them were random triggered events.I understand why they moved those to be server side. It should only affect the player when they want to be online. Their should be an offline version. However, I knew this wasn't going to happen and I bought the game. Is it a fun Simulation of City building...Yeah, would it be able to run on computers that are 3-5 years old, maybe...[/citation]
This is 100% totally incorrect. The game only needs to be online to save/load and to interact with regional multiplayer situations.

[citation][nom]rantoc[/nom]Will be fun to see how few pre-purchases ect Blizzard will get with the next title after diablo 3's "suxess".[/citation]

Probably pretty far.

I mean come on, why complain? I didn't buy this because EA made it very clear what it was going to be. They said it would be an always-on social game. You went out and bought it. This tells EA "Hey, we must be doing a good job, look at all these sales!" Stop being sheep. Stop running out and buying "Title X 5, the sequel to the Title X you loved as a child". Meanwhile, far better games out there made by people who want to do more than fondle your wallet get passed over because they aren't established franchises.

It's time to start being educated consumers. Read reviews, play demos, rent games. DO NOT FALL FOR THE PREORDER PLOY. The cool bonuses are just so they can bamboozle you into buying a game you know nothing about. Who cares if you don't like it, you bought it already.

I thoroughly hated getting kicked off a single-player D3 gaming session by server-side problems so you can count on me not buying into any more always-on-DRM games ever again no matter how good or hyped they may be based on principle.

I have neither time nor energy to waste on DRM-infested games.

If enough gamers boycott games with that crappy "always-on" BS, a.k.a. "you play when our servers let you play, or your ISP, or your whatever we don't care as long as no one pirates a game even if they don't plan on buying it either way our shareholders are happy with it", then they will stop making this kind of crap. If you purchase it, you lose your right to complain when the server are down or even when they take them offline in a couple of years!

battifield 3 my last EA game.

the only thing they can get my money is to release a Mass effect trilogy complete pack with all DLCs @ $15 USD.

People who complain have obviously never seriously played SimCity. I've played every single version, this is the best so far. It gets rid of the of the micromanaging that made 3 and 4 more painful (who care's about running 5 different utilities within 5 blocks of everything) and keeps the good stuff. Maxis said an always on connection would be needed. if anyone paid attention they would know this one is fundamentally different. It simulates bottom up vs top down, some of the calculations are done server side so the game doesn't work without a connection.

These are just growing pains for a brand new system. Yes DRM sucks, but if you buy the first car off the lot or the first brand new gadget not everything will work correctly. Price you pay for being the first.

Ok let me get this straight. They don't allow pre-loads because the game isn't finished yet and they are still working on it till launch. The servers can't handle the traffic. It is only available on Origin, and not any other ways from what I gather. And they didn't learn from diablo 3 and it is always on connection BS. How will this game NOT fail again? It seems like they are just trying to screw themselves over.

This is going to be interesting. I haven't been able to play the game for two entire days, so I'm asking Origin for my money back. If they say no, I'm going to challenge it with my credit card company. I really hope other dissatisfied users do the same. I was able to log in once to a European server, but was not allowed to create any cities.

It is outright unacceptable to sell a game that people cannot play.

I purchased a game. I cannot play the game for which I have paid. Yet EA continues to advertise the game on television hoping for even MORE sales, which will make matters worse.

Welp. I managed to play it for 5 hours on the 5th, at night. I'm able to play it now but not with my friends because some sort of sync bugs. The thing is that servers are getting hammered so there's high chance of rollbacks. If you can get in, you can probably play fine like a lot people are but don't expect to see the region get saved. I guess things should smooth out over the next few days. That being said, based on what I've been able to play I'd say the game's pretty good. At times I wished I had a bit more space. You can still enjoy the game even with the current size though. And yes the simulation is as good as people say it is. It's funny though, if this game didn't have DRM and if it had bigger cities, it would be pretty darn perfect... If you're looking for SC4 2, this is not it though. It was always said to be a reboot, a reimagination of the series, that's why it's SimCity and not SimCity 5 or 6. That's where people get mistaken.

I just want the servers to work the way they're supposed to already..

I wont be buying it either, even tho I loved earlier editions. Maybe 10 years down the road if it becomes freeware.
If I pay for it, It should be mine, internet or not.....

[citation][nom]peterson99[/nom]Really? Why is this such a big deal, I mean who doesn't have a constant internet connection these days anyways[/citation]
Let's see, the server problems that the article explains. The fact that if the servers ever go down, no more ability to play the game.

Think about how many people still play the original Diablo game today. If it required an always on connection, no one could as the servers are now down for it. Not to mention, forget playing it when you are releaxing somewhere like the park, or between classes and such.

No need for always connected scheme for single player.

Since I liked Simcity 4, I was hoping this one would be good as well (hopefully better at using system resources - Simcity was highly CPU dependent, single-threaded, and didn't work properly on AMD/ATI video cards, and thus didn't work smoothly on anything with a large city). With the DRM, well shut up and don't take my money. I'm not buying this one. (I might pirate it though, but it looks like that won't be possible if the computations really are done server-side.)

Quick update from my earlier post about not being able to log in yesterday.
I got to jump on the pc at about 6pm CST tonight and logged in with no issue. Played for about 5 hours with no issues. Hopefully a sign the server slam has died down or been resolved.

Once in, this is the best SimCity yet. Still no need for DRM on it, but I love playing this game non-the-less.

As far as other issues:

Roads can be tricky but I'll take the minor issues with placement and connectivity in exchange for curved roads.

The smaller city area isn't much of an issue, it's still plenty big and I'll sacrifice some size now for the much improved detail an immersion into the city. It's definitely not SimTown as someone else said. As with SimCity 4 some areas are larger than others.

Some things are missing i.e. subways, and other things I thought should have been newly added, i.e. seasons and elevated trains, but hopefully they will be part of an expansion later.

Traffic movement seems a little odd at times. Sometimes a vehicle will do repeated U-turns and traffic doesn't always seem to look for the best alternate route if there is a traffic jam.

I can't figure out how to delete the city to start the zone over again.

None of these are game or deal breakers though. The game plays very well.
Overall, worth the buy despite DRM and early server issues.
