I just connected the laptop to the TV via HDMI cable, and the TV seems to be showing up on the laptop:

but the laptop doesn't seem to be showing up on the TV. That is, when I scroll through the "Input" options on the TV, the laptop isn't showing up.

I did some searching and found some suggestions/solutions and tried them, but nothing has worked. I restarted the laptop with it connected to the TV and the TV on. I shut down and restarted the laptop with it connected to the TV and the TV on. I've changed the laptop to a lower resolution to make sure it wasn't too high of a resolution for the TV.

I'd appreciate any suggestions anyone could give.

Solution
Never mind, I figured it out.

I didn't realize it, but the Sony TV had a place in the Settings where you go to "Label Video Inputs" - where some of the labeling options were "VCR", "DVD", "Cable Box", "PC", etc. One of the options was "Skip", which meant that when you scrolled through the Input options, it would skip over that slot and it would be grayed out, so that you wouldn't have to bother scrolling through a bunch of slots that were empty. When I saw that it was grayed out I assumed that the TV was not reading the laptop's presence, but it was actually because the settings were set to "Skip" over that particular HDMI slot. I changed it from "Skip" to "PC", and now it shows up as "PC" when I scroll through the input options.

I...

Are you asking me what the brand is? It's Eluktronics, if that's what you're asking.

As I stated, the laptop doesn't show up on the TV. When I scroll through the "Input" sources, I see HDMI 2 and HDMI 3 grayed out and not available. (HDMI 1 is the cable box.)

I appreciate your efforts, parker_307. I'll go ahead and select one of your answers, since I can't select my own answer, and I don't want this thread to appear as if it's still waiting for a solution.

Thanks for doing that, Phillip Corcoran. I don't mind giving parker_307 the Solution points, but it might confuse some people if they saw this thread.

I'm sure parker_307 will be okay with it. :)
