It depends. How much money do you have burning a hole in your pocket?

I haven't got one myself, but a lot of folks rave about the Saitek X-45 (?)
Apparently its a bit pricey but very high quality and worth the cash

Do you consider $70.00 new to be pricey? I don't - at least compared with
the CH or Thrustmaster stuff. Alternatively, try eBay (
http://tinyurl.com/64llh ) - there's one for $46.00.

There is also a new stick out by Saitek called the X-52, but I cannot stand
the way it looks, and they replaced the rudder bar with twist stick, which I
don't care for.

my limit is $100 I think anyway. I miss my old sidewinder force feedback
already 🙁

Thats probably the best choice for your limit Anthony. If you really want
FF, Saitek have a couple of sticks that seem identical to the MSFF2 in
everything but looks.

Oops :) I should have said that I'm just going by their website and have
never actually tried any of their other sticks, so cant give a personal
recomendation.

Well at least it's good to know that there's a FFB stick out there still.

My question: Why don't CH Products or Thrustmaster make a FFB stick?

Hmm... As far as I know, that is because both sticks (CH and TM) are modeled
from the F16's stick. Essentially, in the F16 you are not able to move the
stick (only about half an inch); it reads the pressure you put on it, so you
won't feel any feedback at all in the real plane. No point in having it in a
stick for your computer either, then.

Well since I fly pretty much all WW2 era sims, this doesn't help me at all.
Screw Thrustmaster!

Dang Good Point!

I would guess all these fly-by-wire (modern aircraft) fighters and airliners
have a stick shaker for impending stall, but I'm not sure even about that.

At any rate, it would be an artificially generated shake even in real thing.
With fly-by-wire there is no physical connection between the controls and
the control surfaces, only electrical.

Thing that worries me about FFB in flight sims, is it would interfere with
control of the plane when the going gets tough, as with dog fighting. One
enemy at a time is enough for me, considering FFB would be enemy no. 2 in
those situations.

I have the new X52. I love the stick, although the twiststick-rudder I'm
still trying to to get use to. I don't think the twiststick-rudder is as
precise as old style I use to use (similar to R/C airplane controller), but
with a CH F-16 FighterStick in right hand. Left hand was a simple two axis
Kraft joystick with the centering spring turned off for throttle. Worked
great, but it was all gameport connections and you need two gameports. I
couldn't get two to work with with new ATX machines. Y-Cable disables
Buttons 1 and Button 2 in the stick! 🙁''' I couldn't use the programming
feature of the F-16 FighterStick with the new Athlon computers either, so
had to replace it.

Hey...

Just a comment on the lack of programmability:

This is all because of the new operating system, "Windows XP"... It all
worked fine in a Windows 98 environment, since W98 is DOS-based, not based
on the NT technology, like XP. Simply put, NT doesn't accept keyboard inputs
through or in conjunction with the gameport, so if we want a programmable
stick in XP we need to buy USB...
