Yea I think almost any employees at a school can get the discount. And I ordered my monitor over the phone a long time ago, I didn't even know you could get the educational pricing over the web. I hope they are still giving the educational prices to students, I'm thinking of buying a TFT5030 as a 2nd monitor.

grrr, this is makign me mad, i send them an email and they replyes:

I apologize for your frustration. However, we do not provide higher education institutional pricing to individual personal
purchases. For a personal purchase, you will need to place your order through the "home & home office" online store, or call
1-800-888-0220.

I cannot explain how the other people you know were able to utilize the education institution discounts.

I recommend that you call the above number with pricing questions. But you can also contact me at the number below.

Thank you,

someone please help me get this monitor for cheaper, 800 is too much for me, and when this forum have talked so much good about this monitor i just cant get a samsing monitor off the FRY's for $650. someone help me

Samsung make as fine a 17in lcd as anyone else! go do some research outside this little forum and see what other people say! you won't regret getting a Samsung!

Hmm, odd, theyu changed the website. Try telling em over the phone that a few of your friends bought the TFT7020 (say freinds, cause they are less laible to trust u/give discount if u say people u know from an online forum), and that they got rather large discounts, and you would like to get the same. Tell them they purchased it recently, and that they had no issues w/ discount.

it was that i placed my order, hmm, I might call them up, flame, when did you buy your monitor? liek what month, and did you order it from Cali. i will call them on monday and hope they make a mistake, I think they told me that the order gave to go though the school, like the school is buying it and then i buy it from the school. imn not really sure because the sales person talked a lot of gibberish. hope my deal will go though soon tho, if not Samsung is what i will get, but that one for 650 does not have DVI, and dvi i want🙁

This is what is stated on Compaq.com for being able to use discount.
Unlike other companies who sell direct, Compaq gives you the alternative to buy directly from Compaq, while still receiving service and support from a local Certified Education Partner (CEP), or buy straight from your local CEP. The choice is yours!
Institutions that are eligible to purchase from Compaq's National Education Price List or from selected state/education contracts include:

All public or private institutions.
Community colleges.
Universities.
State colleges.
Students, staff and faculty of eligible institutions.
University hospitals.

ANy1 here a teacher or something in the SF bay area?

the compaq deal did not work, im sad but thats life, so does any1 know a good place to buy this monitor, i found it for $760, is that good or shoudl i then go with another monitor, i dont really wanna spend that much money, 700 should be absolute max, but if this monitor is so much better then i have to go with the compaq one

Woah, dude, u r a student, right? There must be some mistake. Bascially the order does go through the college/university, but it gewts shipped to u...they don't make $ or anything. I'm in NY, so what happened is that I wrote I was w/ Columbia University, and it went through. Call em up...they must have not understood u.

I don't think he's a college student? Hey Flame, did you ever get an email from Samsung? I'm still waiting on mine...

Jack Burton is a great man...

ok, i will try again, i wrote i was a student for a college, should i include some more, or should i say im a part of my college....
I trully hope i can get it
the one at compaq told me i had to be a teacher and the deal goes through the school

Ok, cancel that order, cause they now have it on file. Make a new one. Then, say u r AFFILIATED w/ ur college. Might even state the department (ie, what u r studying).

Only if you let me see the Umpa Lumpa- Homer Simpson.

hmm, thats a good one, aftificail with the math department, hehe thats what i will do, now i just have to cancel my old order, but i htink thay already did that... so on monday i will call them and hope this will work

Damn Flame, I don't think we're gonna get an answer from them. There has to be a way to know what the 181T uses. Do you know Shark if it uses MVA or not?

So, what is the story on the educational discount? I am a college student, can I get it? My gf just started working as a teacher's aid at an elementary school, could she get it? What is the deal? I really want to order this, but I can't afford $800.

Flame, were you saying you ordered one WITH a base but without speakers and it came fast? Did you order over the phone? There is no mention on the website of anything but 1 with speakers and 1 with no base. By the way, what makes you say the ones with speakers are always out of stock?

profjo00, did your new order go through with the discount? Did you order over the phone? What did you tell them and what did they want to hear?

You may be elligible for a dsicount, however since it's in an elementary, it may be slightly different (less of a discount). Have any friends/relatives in college? As for the speaker thing, I needed the first TFT7020 (w/ speakers) replaced, since the genious UPS kindly dropped it a few times, and did damage to the backlight. Anyway, I waited for some time, but no LCD came, so I gave em a call, but it was still on backorder. However, the customer relations guy said that there were monitors available w/o speakers (with a base), and that he'd send me one of those. Just call them I guess.

yeah i went on the net and ordered and did not get the confermation letter, so i called them up and they told me that they did not give discounts to students, so i was mad, but flame adviced i bend the truth. so i will call them up and and check if they still have my old order, and make sure they calcel that one and then i will tall them again, so make a new order and hope it will work this time.

that is call cheating!

I wonder how much "trust" can we believe in people who cheat or tell people how to cheat! and really don't have any romorse about it at all!

Who needs the discount more- a student who makes little money, or a professor, making a hundred grand a year? Also, they state they give discounts to students.

Only if you let me see the Umpa Lumpa- Homer Simpson.

I will call them up and tell them im a tutor, so i hope i can get the discount... but we should not cheat this, the discount is for a good cause

Yes, Compaq's cause of not wanting all the educational contract computer sales to go to another vendor. Compaq sells well over $100 million a year in products through their E&I contract alone. If Compaq wasn't willing to negotiate a good discount with E&I, E&I would simply find a vendor who would. Very few businesses do things just for a good cause - that cause better make them money somehow.

1. the educational discount also include high school teacher, middle school, etc etc, not just your average professor from big college.

2. This is not a case of who need, but a case of right or wrong! no student "need" a $600 and up lcd monitor when a perferctly good crt can ge had for around $200!

if a person really want a lcd and can not afford it, save the money until you can, with lcd and its still improving technology, by the time you can "afford" it, you will be getting an even faster/cheaper/sharper lcd for sure!!

oh wait, we are talking about Compaq "7020", in which case, it will be cheaper! but how can one improve on perfection!!

i think i will buy this monitor for $750, i found it someother place, but its still lots of money, for me who goes to collage, its much money, but good things ussually cost much... if anyone can find a good place to get this monitor cheap please post it here, please
thanx
