hello my problem is i had a 1000w xion PSU that died on me so i went to get a new one but could not spend that much money so i got an antek 750w and now my system keeps freezing when i play a game (star trek online) my system is custom build here is a list of parts

asus striker 2 extreme mobo
4 gig Patriot Viper DDR3 1333
intel qx9650 with Ultra ChillTEC Thermal Electric CPU Cooler
antek 750w PSU
1.5tb sata hard drive (storage) + a 250gb IDE hard drive (operating system )
nvidia gtx 260 896MB
cooler master HAF 932 full tower case
windows 7 x64 ultimate

the strange thing is it never froze b4 with the 1000w PSU

p.s. no overclocking i cranked it down to well below the stock speeds @2.66ghz and the voltage is set to auto
any clue ? maybe when the 1000w PSU went you think it might have broke something?

Unless you got that extremely rare bad one, there is no way your PSU is being overloaded by your system; that has been made abundantly clear. Replace it if you like, but if so you don't need to pay for any more than 650W, and that's for multiple video cards of if you might get a Fermi. An overloaded Antec PSU will shut itself off. As has also been stated, it is very likely that the Xion did some damage when it died. Another alternative is therefor to replace your mobo; use an identical model if you want to avoid having to reload everything.
That's it. Done.

The idea that 750 watts is insufficient for your configuration is just silly.

Everywhere I look I see plural, typically troubleshooting is done one component at a time.
Have you tried hooking up one of the two devices that are currently disconnected and seeing the outcome ?

Well the op obviously believes he needs a better power supppy so what am i to say! With a bit of uncommon common sense the op can test each drive with only one in ata time. If the mitherbosrd is still under warranty it can be rma d the op can just say it didnt work so theyll hopefully replace it!

if u get the exact same model then u can just make it a quick swap without a windwos reinstall or installing all the new drivers for the new board! sometimes windows wont boot with a different mobo if u dont reinstall it...just a thought
