Hello Everyone,

I just finished the original NWN as a 14th level Ranger and just before
starting SoU (playing one of the Mods), I took a level in Rogue. Through the
first Hilltop dungeon & all I've seen are Kobolds, Rats, Skeletons and such.
I don't think I've taken a hit yet??

I'm thinking that the computer is matching me against level one foes?? My
save games also read XP-1 before the title. Is there a way to change the
settings to match the level 14 ranger + level one rogue? Did I just dual
class at the wrong time or is it this easy for everyone?? It's gonna be
tough to level up again going 4 xp a pop - yawn.

Thanks for all your help on previous posts!!

Malcolm

It's that easy for everyone who starts with a fifteenth level character,
sure. You're expected to start SoU with a new first-level character.

Ohh - I was under the assumption that the games were written for continued
development of a character. How about HotU? Is that written for higher level
characters or is it another begin at 1??

Thanks,
Malcolm

No... you can make a new character or use an existing one... but it will
level you up to level 15 if you aren't already level 15....

Not quite; if you are level 13 or 14 it will leave you where you are, if
you are 12 and under (including a brand new character) it will, as you
say, level you up to 15. Oh, and if you are level 16+, it will also
leave you where you are.

Its reasonable to start HOTU with a character who completed either SOU
or the Original Campaign. SOU is pretty much a joke for someone who's
completed the OC though.

Its reasonable that it worked that way, too, if you think about it;
completing the OC left you around 16th level, and both NWN and SOU
limited you to 20 total character levels. That means they'd have to
build a campaign that would only be about 4 levels deep... they decided
it would be more interesting to start over.

Then when HOTU came out, they added a whole 20 more levels... so it made
sense to start you out about where you'd be ending one of the other two,
and let you work your way up into the post 20 "epic" levels.

Sadly, HOTU will only get you to around 28, and there's very little out
there for 29-40

HotU assumes the PC has finished SoU. (/Not/ the original NWN, just SoU.)

SoU expects a new level one character. He/she would be about level 12 at the
end of SoU.

The encounters scale; you're probably facing a lot more enemies than a new
character would. But with all the equipment from the OC, mere skeletons and
kobolds can't do anything to you.

Start over?

Dual class is the wrong term... it's a concept from the old AD&D. In D&D3E,
there is no longer dual-class or multi-class... replaced by character level,
class level and prestige classes. Read the OC and SoU manuals.

You're meant to start SOU at level 1 - it's a separate story from the OC.

Best wishes
