I have a few k6-III+'s, I also have an FIC VA-503A Motherboard, but the k6-3+ doesn't work with this MB. If anyone has info as to which MB's work with the k6-3+, the help would be greatly appreciated.

Nahte,

Unfortunately K6III+ are meant for laptop computers, according to AMD. That is why you cannot get any motherboards running on that processor. :frown:

I hope you check your voltage. This new K6 III runs at 2.0 volts, all other AMD chips runs at 2.2 volts. Which multiplier are you using and which memory speed are you using? It will run best on 100 mhz bus speed memory, so a multiplier of 4.5 X 100= 450 mhz or 5.0 X 100= 500 mhz. I do not think a bus speed of 66 mhz will help or be beneficial.

Also does the FIC VA-503 has the lastest bios? If my memory stands correct, you need a FIC VA-503+, not the A model, with 1.2 revision and the white sticker on motherboard with # E2568 or some # like that. If not you need to flash your bios (very dangerously) to upgrade your bios to support this chip.

Sorry to disagree with you, but AMD new chip for notebook only different is the voltage. It runs at 2.0 volts so it can run cooler in a notebook environment. It's made on a 18 micron instead of 25 micron for this reason. The chip internal design is the same, so I do not see a reason not to run in a desktop computer. Unless there is another change in the design that I am not aware.

These new boards suck my ass! Anyone know the cheapest place to get k6/3 450+? Dave

I know that the Soyo 5EHM boards work OK with the 3+ series chips, you just need the latest bios version(1DA1).

fic boards need a bios update - now it is available at fic website but not at normal place - try the facs page or amdzone k6-x forum if you cannot find it at fics website. So they do work with bios flash (some danger but not that much really), fic does not officialy support this cpu that is why they hide the beta bios (because they do not want to answer to people who have trouble).

I am using a K6-III+ 450 and FIC 503A, 2x(remapped to 6x) 100FSB. Flashed Bios to Jn4116. Stability & performance have been good.
