Hi

I'm building a new games system around an Athlon 64 in a Neo2 Platinum board
and have run into serious problems.

When I first put the system together it booted up no problems. My problems
started when I attached an old floppy drive to the mobo in order to load up
a sata driver. Don't know exactly what happened but at some point the system
just died and refused to power up at all. By a process of elimination I
found that the psu would remain on only if I disconnected the 4pin cpu power
connector from the mobo. I was advised that this indicated a faulty mobo.

Having now fitted a new mobo I find that the psu now remains on with both
power connectors attached to the mobo. But that's it, I don't get any
signals from either the on-board graphics or my GeForce 6800 Gt board. I
don't get any beep codes from the mobo speaker at all.

After playing around a little more I now find that the psu powers up
immediately when switched on without me needing to press the case power-up
button.

Can anyone suggest a possible cause or a good procedure for isolating the
fault. My thoughts are that I may have a broken psu or processor.

Thanks for any help

Fred

A quick follow up question....

What should the response of a k8n neo2 be to being powered up with no cpu
present?
Would it keep the psu powered up and if so what if any beep code would it
give?

Thanks again

Fred,

it is possible that it is the powersupply, not the MB. If you get what
appear to be power related issues on two MBs then.....

Thanks David

I discovered that my new mobo (the non-oem one) has a diagnostic card you
can fit. This hangs on the first led display which according to the manual
indicates a faulty cpu. It gives the same diagnostic if the cpu is removed
altogether.

Now, does this definitely indicate a faulty cpu or could this also be caused
by a faulty psu - perhaps a faulty 4pin 12v supply to the cpu? Anyone got
any thoughts?

Anyways, I think I should be able to get a no-quibble replacement on the
cpu. So I'll go for that.
