I guess my write-up is confusedly written-up.
If an instance of IE is open offline, IE will continue to work after going
online, UNTIL that instance is closed. Then, the BSOD resumes at every
attempt to open another IE or click an URL.
** That's interesting, you tried going to the folder, and send a shortcut of
the executable to the desktop. Uncheck from msconfig, restart, launch IE,
minimize, connect and get IE homepage loaded, and then try running KB891711
manually. You have tried the above ???
This is true, despite NetZero still caused a BSOD after it connected while
trying to open it's home page.
Trying it again, with my entire Startup Group enabled....
** I showed you my startup processes, can't hardly get more minimal then
**My Group**.
(1) NetZero connected, with it's normal orderly BSOD.
(2) Setting the open instance of IE to go online, it seems to work, (just as
it did with the sparse startup).
(3) Clicking URLs in my "URLs to See" folder opens them fine in that
original instance of IE.
(4) OOP... clicking my IE shortcut (which would open a new instance) did
cause that BLOD.
(5) OOP-- R-Clk an URL, Open in New Window, also BSOD's.
So, it's nothing in my Startup Group doing it. I just have to have an
instance of IE open, before I go online with NetZero, which BSOD's at
opening it's home page. BUT IE will then continue to work from the instance
I had open. A new instance BSOD's, but the original will continue to work.
** Try AGAIN, send shortcut of the goofy executable to desktop, have IE
open, open .html from TIF and wait before you launch KB891711, have your
connection to Net Zero. I would think since instance of IE is minimized,
you shouldn't get BSOD, **afterall you will already have an instance of IE
open w/page loaded**?
** I only tried launching IE w/KB891771 checked, but when I unchecked it all
was fine. So, I don't understand, why you can't manually launch it after IC
and IE is launched ??
What does it all mean?
** MVP's are working on it for sure.... Microsoft, has not made any public
announcements.... I'm very disappointed in Microsoft!!

NOW, at great personal risk without the protections of Kerio Personal
Firewall and McAfee, I click my NetZero connectoid...
=== It is just as reported before ===
=== SAME ORDERLY BSOD ===
=== as NetZero tried to open it's home page ===
=== So, here I am, naked on the NET ===
=== BUT unable to open IE, anyhow ===
May as well continue the OE session. Hmm, the IE instance that was opened
offline continues to work offline. Let' see...
(a) I've put it online & REFRESHED.
That worked.
(b) I've clicked a few MS URLs.
Seems to be working.
(c) I've closed that instance of IE, & clicked an URL.
==== THERE'S THE OLD BSOD ====
"A fatal exception 0D has occurred at 0000:0000FA0E...."
Hmm, that's something like Blanton was saying in another thread...
news:OxlaLBKKFHA.3992@TK2MSFTNGP15.phx.gbl...
| Someone (in here?) posted that if they open a local page offline,
| and then connect they don't blue screen. Have you tried that?
| Or just open IE and then connect? I wonder what would happen if you
| move it out of runservices and into the startup folder (for
| example).
...., that an already open IE would continue to work. It didn't work then,
but I hadn't...
(a) Turned off all those Startup Items.
(b) Started KB891711.exe from the Startup Group,
but just clicked it after startup, instead.
Well, as I can't now open IE, I may as well continue this OE session, per my
initial decision. More study seems to be in order.

| I see no problem with the second of those, but KB891711 is causing a
| problem on my machine. It places KB891711.EXE into the Startup Group...
|
| KB891711 Registry (Machine Service)
| c:\windows\SYSTEM\KB891711\KB891711.EXE
|
| ...After that, I am unable to open IE, once I have connected to the NET.
| (OE & E do continue to work.) Now, I have closed KB891711.EXE using
| EndItAll2, & I no longer get...
|
| "A fatal exception 0D has occurred at 0000:0000FA0E...."
|
| ...at every attempt to open IE. The crash is orderly, & Windows will
| resume nicely by "click(ing) any key", which is rare for BSOD's, the
| ones I've ever seen.
|
| IE does work offline before I connect using NetZero. Going offline after
| once being online does not allow IE to work again.
|
| So, I've unchecked KB891711.EXE at "START button, Run, MSConfig, Startup
| tab", & wait patiently for a fix at Windows Update. All is well with it
| unchecked.
