Keep getting "Network security key mismatch" when connecting to my Wifi extender but not the router

So I recently installed windows 7 on my new pc and i can connect to the internet through the router, but its quite far away and when I go to connect to my Wifi extender it says "network security key mismatch" even after typing the password in correctly several times. btw my old computer worked when connected to both.

I've deleted both networks from my wireless network manager and tried reconnecting

I've tried the cmd route (ipconfig /renew) and (ipconfig /release)

Update - I do have a laptop connected to it, that uses the same key as the router

anything else I can try?

Maybe the extender uses a different wireless key to the router - though I've never come across one that does use a different key.
