Don't want to ruin your argument, but the cards have been out there for quite a long time, and we ALL knew that when the 680 was launched/introduced AMD would lower their prices. It was just a matter of time for competition to kick in, so no surprises there IMO.

I think you're beating a dead horse here, since no company would not use the time advantage over the competition to price their stuff accordingly. This works both ways. Remember when the 8800GTX launched?

Cheers!

I had to laugh jaydee :) +100000 :)

I do think that's a middle finger to the consumer for what AMD is about to do concerning the price cut. Kind f like, nah nah, poo poo; we knew we were going to cut it but milk you for every penny before.

One thing that bugs me with Nvidia; the low amount of Vram. When I got the MSI 570GTX to keep me happy till Kepler, I was surprised at the amount of VRAM thinking it was 2GB...nope. AMD has 4GB on the 7970 and the 680s with 2GB...huh? I have to admit, Im happy with jumping to Nvidia when I dumped my 4890 ATI card. Driver update/download has for the first time been a pleasure and I don't get nervous lol! I will keep an eye on the (rumored) 685's and hope like others that they up the VRAM because I'm thinking of staying with Nvidia and no Mal you can't have my 570GTX :)

I wouldn't say you're ruining my argument or that I'm beating a dead horse. We just have a difference in opinions. Of course it makes sense for them to try and take advantage of the time when Nvidia wasn't able to keep up with demand, I think I even said something to that effect. I'm simply viewing it from a consumer perspective and you're looking at it from a corporate perspective.

Some companies try to reward loyalties, some don't. One example, and I hate to use it, is the original iPhone and iPhone 3g. When the iPhone 3g was released, apple offered a $100 credit to those that had recently purchased the original iPhone. They didn't have to do it, but they did.

What would have made more sense to me, in this case, is to offer a similar type of rebate or perhaps just a game that could showcase their technology. Something to reward the people who chose to purchase their product with the prospect of a price-cut looming. Again, it's not something they would have to do, it would just be a "thank you" to the people who believed enough in their product to purchase them despite having a cheaper, arguably better, GPU on the market.

I think the main concern from AMD wasn't just the pricing of the 7970 in contrast with the 680, it was probably the fact that AMD would have to adjust the pricing of the 7950, and possibly other series, to keep their hierarchy pricing in-line. Adjusting multiple products because of a single release by Nvidia does not make sense at all from a business perspective, so I understand completely their decision to stick by their pricing. That is why I think a rebate or some perk would have been in order. AMD wouldn't have had to adjust their other products, they wouldn't even have had to make it a $50 rebate; a $20-30 rebate would have been just as appreciated, I'm sure, and it would have probably helped sell a few more cards too.

Despite reports that AMD wasn't going to lower their prices, it was inevitable. That doesn't change the fact that, if I were to have purchased a 7970 in the last 3 weeks, I would be a bit frustrated by this news and would probably feel a bit slighted. Hopefully the people who recently purchased the card have some form of price-assurance! :)

In the 4890's defense, it's P/P ratio after a month skyrocketed, making it the best card around for quite a while (at least, around here in Chile). And driver wise, never had an issue with it, though I must admit I was always ready for a driver rollback, lol.

I'm now debating with myself about getting a 7870, a GTX580 or wait for nVidia's lil' GK104. The 6950 that can be unlocked are already sold out everywhere 8(

Cheers!

Ok, now that I agree with.

And AMD used to buy your used video card for a new one; maybe it was in the ATI days, since I was looking around for the link, but can't find it, so I guess there is no more of that. Not the exact same thing you were saying to "payback for a loyal customer", but they did have some sort of way of doing it. Maybe nVidia has it too, I don't know.

Cheers!

It would be great if Nvidia offered a buyback program. When I'm able to get a hold of a pair of non-reference 680, I'm moving these 570s to my old computer and I'll have a pair of 280s with nowhere to go but ebay. 🙁

Not a bad place for them to be, actually... A lot of folks put them and get some money back while the video cards are put to good use. For instance, some folks getting a cheap PC for their kids to play games on their 720p TV at some mid res.

Well, the 7870 is cheaper than the GTX580, but the diff is like 20USD. And the 6970 is at the same exact price. My 4890 is still holding fine, just no DX11, hahaha.

Cheers!

only super special ninja gpu hungry people get to buy those :pt1cable:

Why would they want your old trash?

I'm saying why would Nvidia want ur stuff
