Hi all, first time poster.

After some issues with a build I had for 6 years from PC Specialist whereby I couldn’t get it to post anymore (turns out the mobo had had it), I decided to upgrade.
Current specs are:

Mobo - ROG Strix B550-e
CPU - AMD Ryzen 9 3900x
RAM - Corsair Vengeance 16 GB (2x 8gb) 3200mhz
GPU - Gigabyte GTX 1070 (from old system)
PSU - Corsair 750W gold (from old system)
cooler - NZXT Kraken x63
Case - NZXT H510
Storage - 256 Samsung SSD (OS drive) and a 1tb HDD (from old system)

I changed the cooler very recently from a corsair h60 to combat the high idle temps of the Ryzen and I’ve started having an issue that’s gotten progressively worse. It started during gaming where the system would randomly restart, it then started when watching videos and it now restarts before I can even get to the desktop. I managed to check the event viewer last time I got through to my desktop and I’ve got several Error 41 - Kernel Power failure reports so its safe to assume this is the restart.

I’ve tried several things since this started happening to no avail (some I did before I was unable to get to desktop) :

  • Reseated all cables and essentially rebuilt the machine
  • removed all external devices, tested one screen at a time
  • ran memtest86 with No errors
  • reinstalled windows and formatted both hard drives
  • updated my power settings
  • updated bios and reset bios to defaults
  • used my stock cooler (system worked fine when this was installed)
  • tried running the machine with out the fans, cooler, the extra hard drive etc. I’m unable to run It without the graphics card (no onboard graphics) and I don’t have a spare to test.

I’m sure it’s my PSU or GPU but I want to check I’ve not missed anything I can do from bios before I buy new parts since this cost me £850 to do and has left me pretty poor

Okay update, so I bought a new PSU as I felt like I tried everything else and I’m still having the same result. I’ve also tried changing what power socket I plug into just in case that had something to do with it and still nothing.
The furthest the pc gets now is to the windows logo or to a “repair windows” screen and then it just crashes again.
Safe to say, it’s driving me crazy so if anyone could help, I’d really appreciate it

Further update:
I had an engineer over to look at the machine (cost £100 for no fix) and we determined that it may be the motherboard as it appeared to restart without the graphics card installed. The CPU does not support onboard graphics so I was unable to test without it.

I have since sent back to Aria who I have bought it from. They have quoted 28 days to test but have since updated me to say that it has been tested twice with no errors so far. They also mentioned that there was some damage to the board but nothing that could potentially cause errors.

I'm now beginning to suspect that the CPU or even the case (could be tripping the board) is the issue but I'm at my wit's end.

Does anyone have any advice or anything I can try once I get the board back if it has no errors?
