Hi all!

Has anyone experienced this in any form in the last couple of days? I suspect it's caused by some update. The problem arised first at home yesterday and then at work this morning, in both places in a different way. Both computers are running Windows XP (sp3 & sp2) and Logitech UltraX Premium Keyboard. Home computer is a desktop with msi motherboard and at work a Dell laptop.
At home the problem started after restarting the computer from Windows XP and problem is that the keyboard stopped working at boot up so that i cannot get to the bios or boot media selection menu, num/caps lock cannot be turned on either, but when I get to the Windows login screen, the keyboard starts working. I saw at some point before restart that at least Adobe Updater was doing an update.
I have tried connecting the keyboard to different usb ports with no change.
Then again at work after booting the computer the keyboard did not work in the Windows login screen, but i did get through the hd encryption software at boot up before Windows so the problem at work was reverse compared to the problem at home. I rebooted the computer and then the problem was gone.

So i'm interested if anyone else has had similar problems and if anyone would have ideas what to do about the problem with the keyboard not working at boot up?

I have a ps/2 keyboard to try today when i get home to try and the to the bios and check e.g. if usb keyboard support switch would have been turned to off by some weird series of events =).

Thanks and have great day!

Hi again!

Still have the same problem, unable to access bios or do anything with the keyboard before the os loads. Now I have tried an USB->PS/2-adapter and an ps/2 mouse/keyboard combo with no help. PS/2 combo thingy does not work in XP either, can't know for sure if it's broken or not though.

Any ideas?!

Thanks
Dennis

Dennis, Did you ever get this fixed? I am having the same problem. I have tried 2 different ps2 keyboards and 2 usb. None work when the computer boots. If I hold down the f1 key when I turn it on I get into the bios but the keyboard won't let me do anything.

I also have that problem weeks ago. I have my friend fixed that one and he didn't even told me what is the read problem. 🙁
I'll ask him again later and I'll give you an update on what he did on mine.

Hi!

And thanks for replying!
Sorry, I forgot to come to post that I got the problem fixed! Fortunately we have these email response alerts.

So the solution was simple: I updated the BIOS from Windows and now the keyboard works again and I can access BIOS normally.
For anyone suffering from the same problem (kb not working before operating system starts), suggest that you update your BIOS (or reinstall the existing version if you're already at the latest). Ofcourse before that try everything that came up earlier in this thread!

Have a happy day everyone!

Hello There,
I have a desktop. similar issue, working great when I shut it down but when I tried to use it the PC stropped at the boot screen and would not post, I built this system a few months back and have had no issue till now. Did the usual troubleshooting, disconnected drives one by one, tried one ram module at a time .... no luck. Tried to remember what I had done on it the day before, remembered by BF Bad Company downloaded am update so was just about to unbolt one of my video cards and saw I had left a CF (compact Flash) card in the reader slot (bells went off) quickly reconnected the drives and tried a test start with the cf card removed. Taaa Daaaa! I remember this issue with some PC's i had worked on before with ppl leaving their ipods plugged in trying to charge them up. Just thought i would post this so it may help someone else! ~Knightwarrier~
