probably not entirely BS. Blue LED's produce a broad spectrum of light which can be filtered to 'white' using a blue filter. LED and filter are both stable.
'White' LED's are just blue LED's with some phosphor on top to give a white glow. The colour reproduction of the phosphor is not as accurate, (different white LED's can have different spectra depending on the production run they are from) and the phosphor can also degrade with time.
