I have a 5 year old Kingston SV300S37A/120G. Just in the last few hours, it's health status in CrystalDiskInfo has gone from 100% to 1% with an "SSD Life Left" number of 1. I downloaded the Kingston SSD Manager to double check this and it also says that the SSD Wear Indicator was at 1%. The thing is, I'm not having any issues at all outside of these alarms. It boots just fine, no noticeable slowing down, no BSOD, I haven't had any issues with moving files around. It works the same as it always has.

I already backed up everything and will be ordering a new SSD tomorrow just in case, but I was curious if there might be some other issue I'm over looking here? I'm hoping it'll at least last me a few more days until my new drive gets here.

Here's the Kingston SSD Manager data export.

Solution
One could easily see 5 years of moderate normal use (3-5 hours per day) pushing 60+ TBW...; the usage on that drive showed it powered on 4.9 years of 24/7 usage?

Odd that it's total read/writes no longer register, but, 5 years of 24/7 use, or 10 years of use half that time, usage/total writes could easily approach 60+ TBW, given my own usage patterns of ~10 TBW per year or so... (The larger SSDs now have some 300-600 TBW endurance, fortunately)

Post a screen shot of crystal disk info.

I understand that, which is why I backed everything up and will be ordering a new SSD. My question was one of curiosity. Sometimes stuff just breaks. It is what it is. But before I start tossing stuff out, I'd like to get the opinion of people more knowledgeable on the topic than me.

When buying a new one get a better brand than Kingston!
Some of them are decent but most just low quality, they were even caught replacing parts to lower quality and speed after they sent drives in for the initial reviews.

I was reading about that while looking up information on this. I was shocked mine lasted as long as it did considering some of the stuff people have said about Kingstons. I'm looking at this Samsung for my next one.

Can you try using Hard Disk Sentinel and get a 2nd opinion?

It's weird that the lifetime writes are zero. That typically gives you an indication of how much has been written on to the SSD, which is what actually wears them out. The 120GB SV300 is rated for 64TB Total Bytes Written (TBW). If you're anywhere close to that figure, you've probably used up most of the spare cells and replacing the drive is definitely warranted before you actually start to lose data.

HDS has health status at 0% as well. Everything else looks the same as CDI. No lifetime writes either. It's very possible I'm approaching that limit though. This has been my main drive for the past 5 (possibly 6) years.

Not much to add..........it shows what you already know.
I do see a caution on a different disk you have......might be worth looking into.
When you get the new disk installed monitor the writes going to it.
See if you have something hammering away at it.

Oh yeah, that disk is one I threw in from an old HP I had. It has to be over a decade old now. I popped it in to salvage some stuff off it and just never took it back out.

Will do!

I'm wondering if there is a firmware bug.

According to Kingston's SMART spec, "SSD Life Left indicates the approximate SDD life left, in terms of PE cycles or Flash blocks currently available for use".

When the normalised value is 1 (= worst), this means that "insufficient Flash blocks remain in service for proper SSD operation". The raw value is either 1 or 0. When the raw value is 0, then "life is driven by PE cycles". Otherwise, if the raw value is 1, then "life is driven by Spare Blocks".

So it would appear that the firmware has decided that the SSD is at end of life because it has accumulated too many bad blocks. Yet the raw value of the "Retired Block Count" is 0, which indicates no grown defects.

Is there a firmware update for this model?

I just looked up my firmware and saw that there is indeed an update (several) for it, but when I used the Kingston SSD Manager, it says that there is no firmware update available.

I checked to make sure the drive was set to AHCI in BIOS because I read that might be an issue with updating. It's set to that though.

Yeah this thing has seen some heavy use. The 4.9 years usage sounds correct. This was my first SSD. It was about time to replace it.

That looks like it could be the exact issue. I'm going to look into why I'm not getting the firmware update for the drive.

My new drive will be here tomorrow, but I still plan on running this old one into the ground just to see. If it is just a firmware bug throwing up that alarm, I'd like to know just out of curiosity.

Thanks you all! I've learned a lot!
