Hi, hoping somebody can shed some light on this as i'm terrible when it comes to fans and the different types of connectors.

I am upgrading to a new z97N-gaming 5 motherboard and will also be purchasing a x61 kraken for cpu cooling. I have had a look at the mobo manual and there are only two fan connectors, a CPU fan connector and a System fan connector. I will have 4 fans altogether. The two for the Kraken X61 radiator, and two chassis fans.

I take it that the 3 pin power cable from the pump is connected to the cpu fan connector and then the two radiator fans are connected into two of the four connectors of the fan power cable from the pump.

My question is can the two chassis fans be connected to the remaining two connectors from the pump fan power cable or must i get a splitter and connect the two to the system fan connector on the mobo?

I'm hopeless when it comes to this, so hoping somebody can go over this and advise.

Thanks.

You are correct about the power connections for the Kraken unit and its radiator fans. Don't forget the Kraken unit also has one connection directly to a SATA power output from the PSU, and a connecting cable to one mobo USB header.

I strongly recommend you connect both your case ventilation fans, using a 4-pin splitter, to the mobo's single 4-pin SYS_FAN header. Also make sure your case fans are of the 4-pin type. The SYS_FAN header controls its attached fans according to a temperature sensor built into the mobo, which is the proper way to control case ventilation. The CPU_FAN header is governed, instead, by a different sensor inside the CPU chip which is already under the cooling system of the Kraken unit.
