I have a 3 monitor setup that I use for my personal computer setup. Recently got a job where i have a work computer and a single monitor. Id like to try to share two of my 3 monitors with the work computer so that i can switch between having 3 monitors for personal, and 3 monitors for work. I have already confirmed the work computer can do 3 monitors so the system is capable but i want to make sure i get the right KVM so i can share those two monitors, but also the mouse/keyboard to save desk space.

I'm thinking that a 2monitor, 2 computer KVM should work correctly, but id like to be sure before i make the purchase. I will say that the computer both use Displayport for their cables which i know drives up the price. All the more reason id like to know if my idea will even work before purchasing a KVM.

My suggestion:

Take the time to sketch out a diagram showing the computers, the monitors, and all involved peripherals including the KVM.

Do not forget the necessary network connections.

On each device include the ports, port type, and port gender.

Map out the necessary cable requirements to make all of the connections between devices.

Google "KVM diagrams" and filter to images to get some ideas about what is required.

For example (not a solution):

https://www.reddit.com/r/desktops/comments/17inl1u/kvm_for_triple_monitors_desktop_laptop/?rdt=38145

Shows cables but device ports and genders are required as well and should be included.

Your diagram does not need to be a work of art. Just be clear enough to show what all that is required.

Put the KVM at the diagram center as shown in the example. You can look for other examples as well.

The objective being to plan it all out first. Carefully and with full details.

You will probably need to purchase cables. Mark/number the cables you have and where they will be used with respect to the diagram.

Then the remaining cables will need to be obtained along with the KVM.

Make a list and remember length requirements.

I have that all planned out, what i was looking for mostly was if what i want is even possible to share it like i want to. But all of that was very useful information for anyone else looking to do this setup as well so thank you for it
