I have windstream running through a phone line and goes to a windstream modem. I want to run a wired connection to my room. I have a phone line in my room.

I have read that you need a modem to connect to the internet. Also I have read that a LAN connection is only local. I was looking for a modem but most of them had only one LAN connection.

What connection do I need to be able to connect to the internet? Lan or Ethernet?

Im pretty sure you can use an ADSL modem. With that you can run a phone line into if you have a spliter.

A LAN and Ethernet connection is pretty much the same thing.

If the phone socket in your room has the same phone number as the live socket and you can replicate the settings from the live modem, then you can buy a second modem for your room.

How many Ethernet ports does the live modem have? If it has more than one, then you could run an Ethernet cable from your room to the live modem.

Only if you get very lucky can you make it work.

You can only have a single modem hooked to a phone line because of technical reasons. But lets pretend you can like a coax cable ISP, in those cases you have to pay the ISP a extra fee.

Using another modem is not a option though.

So if the wiring is not old red/black/green/yellow phone wiring and if it is not wired in a daisy chain style and it happens to run between the 2 rooms and you have the ability to put rj45 connection on it......then you might get it to work. I suspect this is very unlikely but you can look maybe you get lucky

What modem do you recommend i get? it needs to have an adsl input and have a export with access to the internet. i want more than 24 mbps down.

Also i thought LAN was just the local area network and would not connect to the internet. i have a windstream modem running through the phone line already in my house

If you already have a windstream modem then that is all you need, it is likely actually a router. The windstream connects to the phone line and your PC connects to the windstream router on a lan port. It would obviously work if you could run a long lan cable over the floor to your room and connect it to your PC. Your challenge is going to be if you can use the in wall wires to act as this lan cable. The huge problem is figuring out where the wires are in the wall and how they are connected.

I dont want a big ethernet cord running through the house. I thought since the windstream (router or modem?) was connected to a phone line then i could connect a modem in my room just like to windstream is. But i need to know if the modem needs to have a lan or ethernet export?

i know. I meant have the same setup as with the windstream modem exept in my room on a different phoneline. But will the modems with the lan ports work?

That is the purpose of a modem it converts the phone line signals to ethernet/lan that your computer understands. Likely the device you buy is actually a router because DSL only modems are fairly rare.

The large issue with doing what you want is you are going to have to pay the ISP for a second connection.
