Hi,

My laptop. an HP Pavilion ZE4805US (spec), has had a power supply problem. My father tried to find the problem and fix it, but he could not open the laptop case, even after removing all of the outer screws. Apparently, there is some inner binding holding the case together. Does anyone know how we could go about opening the case?

Go to HP.com and find the service manual, or you can google for it. The service manual will show you how to take the laptop apart.

chances are the case snaps together. And if you try to pop it open you will dreak the caseing. If in fact you have a power problem then check the battery and the power cable first. If it's an internal problem then the laptop is dead. Unless you have alot of exsperiance with working on the inside of a laptop you will probably do more damage by opening it. I know any time i've opened a laptop up and fixed the problem it never worked the same again. in one case many of the keys on the key pad stopped working. in another the LCD screen was messed up.

Why will he break it if he tries to open it?????? That's how technicians open laptops up. You seem to give a lot of erroneous information out on these forums mpilchfamily...........

As for the original posters question. Check that the DC input jack is not loose. If it's loose you might be able to resolder it onto the board.

The ZE4365us and compaq 2100 all open the same so look at the parts breakdown and tech specs drawings at the hp site. The new models most likely come apart similarly. They may post that info. as well on their site ; in the past they waited till the newer models came out to post the previous mdels info. usually contained in a downloadable PDF.
The Ze4365us has the speaker grill snap out after removing hinge screws. Then underneath that are the keyboard screws ,remove those hinge that out of the way and disconnect cable ,next you will see three case screws remove those then the shell will seperate. Never force anything to take it apart investigate get all the data info. then proceed. Do not bend the keyboard as it will cause certain keys not to work permanently(VERY SENSITIVE).
Lastly, good luck!

I checked the HP site and under manuals is a service and user manual. It is a PDF format so have adobe reader installed to use . Download takes a minute or two rather lenghty even for DSL. Most power supply problems are the jack burning off the terminal (resolder). Check the DC output with a dc volt meter from your power supply jack if that is okay then check board jack connections . If your model is a new one check extended warranty option if out of warranty often you can extend it after the initial 1-2 year warranty.

Just a heads up.

My wifes HP Pavillion zd7188cl stopped charging due to a problem with the jack. Taking the case apart is a pain and once you finally get it apart....you wont be able to do much. The power jack is mounted directly on the MB. ANY tweaking of the cable while plugged in and it breaks. A solder job would seem to fix this but...

(I cant confirm this but I read it....)The design is under amped. To resolder doesnt change the fact that it overheats and becomes loose and then totally breaks, sometimes causing internal damage. A new MB is about $700. To have someone fix it $300 but the due to the design it might just happen again.

My fix: HP All-in-One Media cable It routes the power through another connector on the MB. It solved the problem for cheap. I dont KNOW if this is your problem but it is fairly common. I could rant about Hp not recalling but I wont. If you decide to look into this make sure the cable is listed as an accessory for your model on the HP website.

*EDIT* I got mine from Tech Excess The service was amazingly fast, gj guys.

you probably have to get the keyboard off there is usually a screw or 2 under that i just did my pavillion zf145 this past weekend to resolder the power connector on what i did was put a dap of epoxy under the conector then resolder it on

maybe thats because you are a retard... when they refer to 'thermal paste' they don't mean you should wear a glove while you jack off to obtain it
