[SOLVED] Laptop has a DP port - monitors do not. With a DP splitter & some HDMI adapters for the monitors, can I adjust the monitors to extend & not duplicate?

This is a bit of a continuation of my last post.
Friend of mine has a Display Port (DP) on their laptop, I was wondering if I could connect it to a DP splitter, then to two DP cables, which are then (each) connected to a DP -> HDMI adapter for the monitors.

It's a bit of a painful work around, but I want to know if I can possibly manipulate the monitors to extend & not duplicate using a DP port instead of an HDMI port (since HDMI port can only duplicate the source screen).

A normal splitter will only duplicate. To use them as extended desktops you would need a Displayport MST hub. Now you would likely want to ask the manufacture of the hub is using an hdmi adapter on the hub would work as I don't know and the specs for the startech i looked at didn't mention anything about adapters.
