I recently received BestBuy in-store credit in order to to get a new ~$2000 gaming laptop. I’m trying to weigh the options between an 11th gen i9 with RTX 3070, or a 11th gen i7 with RTX 3080.

I’m torn between a MSI GS76 that has:
17.3” 1920x1080 360hz screen, i9 11900H, RTX 3070, 32GB ram, 1TB SSD.

Or a GIGABYTE AORUS that has:
15.6” IPS 1920x1080 240hz screen, i7 11800H, RTX 3080, 32GB ram, 1TB SSD.

Here are the links:

Up to you whether or not you would prefer a 17" laptop. As for the i9, you are not missing much over the i7, they are both 8 core/16 thread chips and perform very similarly. From looking at the notebookcheck reviews of those laptops, they both perform similarly despite the difference in CPU.

In my personal opinion, I'd go with the aorus, the i7 is very good and the 3080 will last longer than the 3070 in the gaming segment [not saying the 3070 is bad, but the 3080 is even faster, so it will last longer]

I found the same model at bestbuy that was on amazon. ASUS ROG Strix G15 Advantage Edition 15.6" FHD Gaming Laptop AMD Ryzen 9-5900HX 16GB Memory Radeon RX 6800M 512GB SSD G513QY-212.SG15 - Best Buy Take a look at this model. The best cpu and gpu from amd. The 6800m beats the 3070. It also shares the cpu gpu link in this build that u can't get with nvidia right now. Also saves u some money to get maybe some upgrades or buy something else also

Let's tell the truth. Even the 3080 sucks at raytracing and really its only in like 4 games but why would u spend $1200 plus for a gpu that only is kinda playable with raytracing. This really won't matter until we get to like rtx 5080 line when they have it really setup and there is more games using it. By than amd will have it built in also. Amd did a great job with these guys made them crazy fast playing games that are out now. Kinda said that the 6900xt beats a card like the 3090 that they had to build two extra cards to make it better for nivida. 3090 ti 3080 ti.. so now let's talk about laptop guys that have been cut down to work mobile no way u get more than 30 fps with raytracing on. Not worth playing at that level. Here is a link to PCWorld talking about the 3080 desktop and 3080 mobile and how there not even close to the same chip. 2080 desktop and mobile were only 20% different the 3080 desktop and mobile have been said to min of 50% game play. Closer to 65-75%. This has opened the door to 6800m beating them in raw speed and fps in game play that matters. https://www.pcworld.com/article/393...view-the-fastest-laptop-gpu-just-arrived.html
