How do I turn off the built in mic without turning off the external mic input?

I bought the mic/headphone spliter (suggested by this support, thank you) and it works great, however when I record I get room noise from the built-in mic as well as the input from my external device. Can I turn off the built in mic and still record from the external input?

Solution
Hi,

As I know windows support only one active mic, this means that if you set as active the external mic the internal should be disabled.
But also you can manually disable the internal mic:

Open Sound properties: Control Panel -> Sound
Go to tab "Recording" and there with right click on the mic you can Disable it.

I've tried that and it disables both the internal and external mics, on my system anyway.
I guess I'll just have to live with the extra noise. I'll try taping some cotton over the mic hole.... haha
If you or anyone else comes up with a better solution please let me know and thank you for taking the time to get back to me.

Peace
Tim
