Question Laptop is dying, so slow ?

hello, my laptop suddenly got so slow, I turned off Ms anti-virus, it got a little better but then installed last update yesterday and the laptop is hardly responding, I move the mouse cursor over the address bar and I have to wait 30 seconds for a response. When doing copy/paste, I wait some more time for a response after pressing Enter. The worst example is just to open the forum and write this short message it took me about 40 minutes!

Win 10 Pro 22H2
OS-Build 19045.4412 (just updated yesterday)
i7-3740QM CPU @ 2.70GHz
Ram 12GB

When was last time you cleaned it and replaced thermal paste?
Also Windows is on mechanical HDD or SSD?

1st of April cleaned and changed thermal paste SSD 1TB WD,

UPDATE :
I just tried something with the RAM. I have 2 sticks, a 4GB and and an 8GB.
When I remove either one of them the laptop works well.

It is recommended that both RAM stick be the same size, your notebook has only 2 dimms no? In this situation it should be at least same size and speed (same manufacturer, same model) and the ideal it would be to be a dual channel kit.

I wonder, it was working well for more than a year now. but what you say is logic .. thank you for the prompt reply and follow up
