I have an extra laptop running Ubuntu that I recently setup to run some server software for most of the day. It turns off automatically in the evening with a script. The computer in question is a Lenovo E430.
Last night, I left it plugged in and woke up unexpectedly in the middle of the night to a short, distinct click sound. I looked at the laptop, and the power brick had some orange sparks around it. I immediately unplugged it, but I wonder what might have caused it. I have another power brick that I plan to use instead.
I have two theories; either the power brick failed or there might have been a power surge. Have any ideas why this might have happened?
