laptop to a console

hi i was woundering if you can connect up a xbox one or something to a laptop with a hdmi thanks

I assume you want to use laptop screen to display your console output, but sorry to say it won't work.
Most laptops if they have HDMI its only OUT (output) what you need is HDMI IN (input).
In that case laptop would have 2 HDMI ports one input and one output. If you do not have 2 on your laptop answer is no.
You can find HDMI input only on few laptops which are meant as desktop replacement.
For example I saw it at some Alienware laptops. But generally its not common feature for laptops.
