Laptop will not boot up normally after hard reboot (reset)

After I did a hard reboot on my Dell Inspiron i7R laptop it would not boot up normally to the startup screen. The fan is blowing, the disk is spinning, the led lights are on for the battery and AC adapter, but the screen is black and there is a continual series of five clicks with a one-second interval between them. Help!! Thanks

Clicks or beeps? 5 beeps is the "change CMOS battery" code. Why did it need a hard reboot?

Issue resolved! My laptop was restored to its normal function. Thank you for your willingness to help with my dilemma.
