Large TV vs small monitor resolution

So I'm running my pc off a 36 inch monitor that goes up to 1080p. However the color seems off and it doesn't look smooth. . I also have a 20 inch monitor with 1600x1200 res if I remember right. . Will it look better on the smaller monitor even with the lower res because it's not so stretched out? .

Gpu is gtx 750 ftw 1gb if that matters.

(only asking because I don't have a dvi cable to test it out, which the monitor requires.

If you can check out the ppi on both monitors and base your decision on that. Also, are you planning to watch the monitors from the same distance?

How do you check ppi on the monitors? Go to the manufacturer's website, I'm pretty sure they got all kind of specifications listed there, including ppi.

Okay I looked up the ppi values for you: the 36 inch monitor has a pixel desity of 61.19 ppi, while the 20 inch one has 100 pixels per inch. It means that your smaller monitor should look clearer than the bigger one if you watch both from the same distance.
