LCD NEC vs LG L1970HR 19"

Originally I had asked what you all thought about what you all thought about NEC - MultiSync GX² 19" Flat-Panel TFT-LCD Monitor - 90GX2 and the LG - L1970HR that is available at Best Buy. So far I have not found any real reviews on this LG monitor. From what I can tell the main difference between the two is there Brightness & Contrast Ratio. NEC coming in with 400cd/m2 & 700:01:00 and the LG having 300cd/m² & 1600:1. Could someone out there please explain the benefits or problems between these numbers for Brightness and Contrast Ratio? Also, is there anyone out there who is using this particular LG model and how is it running for you? Does it play games like Unreal or BF2 very well?

Purchased the GX2 at Best Buy because it looked great in the store. After getting it home, it was like a headlight shining at me in my office. Took it back and got the LG 1970HR and love it. Tom's Hardware is correct with the filters on a LCD screen. See the review last month on the site of the GX2.

Cannot find any reviews as of today on the LG, but gaming very good and looks great. No ghosting and same price as NEC (Best Buy dropped price and I got the price match of $399 US.

So far am happy with purchase....3 year warrenty and no dead pixels.

Well brightness is an adjustable feature so that should not be an issue. The NEC uses an opticlear screen which actually will give you better colors than any matted finished LCD screen like the LG. Also that contrast of 1600:1 is a dynamic ratio that LG lists where as the NEC lists its static contrast of 700:1. Dynamic contrast is kind of a fishy spec becuase it allows you to measure your contrast during motion video whcih means you can take your two extreme points (bright/dark) from 2 points which never appear on the screen at the same time. A static contrast is taken from the 2 lightest and darkest points on teh screen at the same time. That is what you need to worry about.
