Hello ! I was wondering what kind of monitor to buy for my PC.I will use my PC mainly for games and watching movies, music, internet. Is LCD or LED better. In internet I read something about IPS display but i do not know is IPS good choice for gaming monitor. If is important my GPU will be Gigabyte GTX 970 or GTX 980.

LED displays are LCD's with LED back lighting. saying that it's an LED tell you little about the display's performance.

types of LCD's are
-TN: fast, responsive, bad color and off angles. highly favored by gamers.
-IPS/PLS: slower, good color and off angles. highly favored by content producers and gamers with a discerning eye.
-other: there's a handful of other, more obscure LCD panel types that vary on how they function, but they are fairly rare in the industry.

the speed discrepancy between TN and IPS/PLS is rapidly closing and you can get 144Hz IPS/PLS displays these days. however there is presently a price premium over their TN variants.

Brand's i truest for LCD displays are, Dell, ASUS, BenQ and LG. however which it choose is dependent on the display and pricing. i can help you find a good display if you can give me a price range along with any restrictions you may have or features you desire.

just a forewarning though, i normally deal with the high end to professional range of displays (27 inch, 1440p and up), so i may not be to useful if your looking for a 24 inch 1080p gaming monitor.

yes, most LCD's these days are LED lit anyways. they tend to be brighter than CFL lit LCD's and use less power. the actually quality of the display for gaming is not really determined by its back light, unless your looking for a light boost style display. (those flicker the back light with the screen refresh to give a CRT like effect)

for good 1080p monitors, i would stick around the 24" and below size range. this is the most popular size presently for gaming displays, and their prices are less inflated than larger formats. you can get a 144Hz display around the 300 USD range, and a lot of other nifty features if you go up a bit more. if display performance is of little concern, displays in this size go as low as 150 last i checked at microcenter.

some reading i recommend for helping pick a display if you haven't already decided.

Normally if it's not mentioned, its 60Hz. most monitors that are higher refresh rates will brag about it (120hz, 144hz). However just to be certain, in the specs sheet for monitors, they will list the refresh rate of the monitor normally (avoid 30Hz). If none of the above tells you the refresh rate, i would shy away from the display till you can find another way to verify its refresh rate. Review websites like Tom's are a good source of how a monitor preforms and what its refresh rate is.
