LCDs with 1600x1200 native res for gaming

I would like to get a flat screen LCD monitor with a native resolution of 1600x1200 that will be used primaryly for gaming. I've be using a 21" CRT for a long time now and it finally gave out so I'm on a 17" CRT right now that just plain blows! Thus I think it's time for me to upgrade. 😀


I just begun to do research on this and would like some help. It looks that if I want a 1600x1200 res I will need a 20/21" LCD correct? Also from what I recall reading I want something with a low response time? Is this ture? Anyone have any suggestions? I mainly play Battlefield 2, Star Wars Battlegrounds II, FryCry, and sometimes Ages Of Empire II. Any help in this area would be appreciated. With the holiday season here perhaps I can find me a deal.

I was a 19" at Best Buy with a 4ms response time but sadly it only had a 1028x768 (i think) resolution.... :?

Good luck on finding one. The highest I have noticed is 1280 x 1024.
The main problem still with lcds is the ghosting. Even on the monitors that say a 4ms time thats the lowest response and not the average which can be alot higher.
If you mainly play games I, and fast motion ones at that, I would look into a 19 to 21 inch crt. Ive been using a proview 19 for like 5 years now and wont be switch to an lcd untill the response gets alot better.

The Dell 2005 and 2405 have responce times good enough for the avid gamer within you.

im using a 3 yr old 16ms LCD and it works excellent


HITACHI CML 174 is still a beast. It was the champ when it first came out.

I think the dell 2405 has everything you need. the 24" widescreen screen is comparible at 4:3 to a 21" monitor. It has 1200 x 1920 resolution, but will run 1200 x 1600 with black bars on each side. Most games can run widesceeen and games are much more involving in widescreen mode. The response is fast enough for games, you do not get any ghosting. Overall its a great buy.

The Dell 2001FPW. However, you might want to consider a widescreen Dell 2005FPW. They're going for something like $330 now with a coupon. Check anandtech's forums for the details since I saw them there.
