Do you know what your timings are? Go into BIOS and look for this screen and let me know what values you have for each setting :

I couldnt find exactly that after a good search in the bios setup, though this is as good as i can find.

Are any of these likely to contain the info?

hey is ur problem when u play the game and then in the middle of playing you just freeze up and it says windows display driver has stopped owrking? well if it is you must of built your own computer? i dont know if this is correct but go through the website http://www.driverheaven.net/windows-7-vista-radeon-display-drivers/133188-vista-7-3-display-driver-atikmdag-stopped-responding-error.html i did everything they told me to and downloaded something from microsoft. and i neverhad the problem again.

if that dont work try lowering graphics that helped me when i didnt know wat to do. i hope i helped

Nope i'm afraid not. Whenever it freezes is quiet random, usually 30 mins info gameplay but once it freezes, it locks up completely. Sound loops, black screen you get the picture. i have to manually turn off my PC. However i did receive an error a while back that it was my ATI graphics card on a different game, il have a look at the link cheers mate.

Theres nothing in the advanced setup, nor any other menus to configure in the bios. I don't know if my bios is a completely different version to what your thinking of but theres nothing there for me to configure. my system bios version is PBDV11.P04

I'l have another look again, this time i will mash the keyboard with my hand hoping that the menu will appear. 🙁

Tk9780, Can you please tell how to check my PSU rate? I'm not very handy at this sort of thing. 🙁

I can confirm i have no options at all in advanced or advanced chipset setup to change or even veiw the timings.

However i was able to find some voltage info if it is of any use to you tk9780;

Vcore: 1.120v
Vbat: 3.088v
+3.3v: 3.248v
+5v: 5.160v
+5vsb: 5080v
+12v: 12.352v

Also, i am beginning to to wonder if my BIOS is out of date, that's why it wont show anything to do with the timings.

Could anyone please possibly help me identify my BIOS type? I know it's alot to ask, but all these numbers and words mean nothing but gibberish to me 🙁

BIOS Type: AMI
BIOS Date: September 1st 2008
BIOS ID: 64-0100-001131-00101111-090108-MCP73-MCP73PVT-PM
BIOS OEM: MCP73PVT-PM 09/01/2008 - PBDV11.P04
Chipset: Unknown
SuperIO: Unknown
Manufacturer: Packard Bell BV
Motherboard: IMEDIA X2416

I've had a look on http://support.packardbell.com/uk/item/index.php?i=platform_amadeus_imedia&t=2006 for updates, but i can't associate any of those versions with the info i posted above.

Didn't know you had a pre-built PC. That is the reason you are missing a few screens and you do not have the ability to make any changes or change any values.

And yes your Bios is over a year old. The new update can be found here :

What power Supply do you have? Stock? Please post the spec's of your Power Supply, the website does not provide that info.

Thanks for the reply, Whenever i try to run the BIOS update, AFUWIN.EXE stops working, windows tries to send an error report but i cannot do anything because my keyboard and mouse stop working all together. I've done this twice now and had to manually reboot my PC.

My PSU is a "hiper type r 580w PSU"

I found a post about it aswell incase you needed more info; http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/5-power-supplies-full-juice-treatment,1216-8.html

If you cleaned out the drivers and re-installed new ones and you say that your PC was working fine before you installed the new GPU then it may be a faulty card. Have you tried underclocking the card?

I would underclock the card but after the driver sweep thing, I cannot find my catalyst control center to do so. I've searched for CCC, the shortcut is there but it keeps saying it's not tied to anything etc - Reinstalled 9.7 - 9.10 drivers including only the CCC, None prevailing.

I appreciate your help and time mate, I think i will call it quits. I've learned alot of things;

OvrClkr is awesome.
Toms hardware is awesome.
Packard bell sucks.
Build your own PC!!

I have nothing against ATI, but next time, i'm going nVidia :)

Is there any way i can give you Reputation similar to steam? Sorry to have wasted your time.

Solved

Great - worked :)

Underclocked it to GPU 500mhz, Memory 750mhz which is the lowest it can go and i must admit i think that's done the trick! 3 campaigns with no crash or anything! I usually crash at the end of 1.

What does this mean? do i have to keep my settings like this?

Okay mate, thanks a bunch for your help. Atlast i can please l4d with acceptable framerates without crashes! I have also noticed a reduced amount of artifacts.

Solved, cheers again buddy

I have a 9800GTX+.

I think I have the same problems.

Here is a video of what my problem looks like.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=65YT_PqCMTY

Basically, I get artifacts. This doesn't happen on any other game. Only on L4D and L4D2.

I have tried several drivers, some from the past and some present, still same occuring problem.

I have underclocked my card as low as it can go, 580mhz, memory 845mhz. Still occurs.

Any other guesses?
