Question Legion 5 PC Mobo DIMM slots 1 & 3 not working

New PC came with 2x8gb ram in DIMM slots 2 & 4. Ordered the same 2x8gb ram direct from Lenovo (had rewards from PC purchase) to add to DIMM1/3. Placed new RAM in DIMMS 1/3. PC would not post. Triple short beep 1 minute after turning on. No monitor activity.

To rule out the new RAM as a problem: I tried both sticks of the original ram in DIMMs 1/3, triple beep immediately on power up. No monitor activity, cannot get to BIOS, no POST. Then tried every combination of 1 stick in each slot.
- DIMM slots 2 & 4 work fine with any combination of the 4 sticks.
- DIMM slots 1 & 3 will not work with any combination of the 4 sticks. Same triple short beep immediately after power on. No POST.

Resetting CMOS via removing the battery/holding power for 30 secs and swapping the jumper for 10 minutes did not fix the problem (though I'm wondering how I can confirm the CMOS was 100% reset. There was no indication aside from a dark screen and automatic reboot after I gave up and finally put RAM back in the original DIMM slots).

Someone suggested placing a stick of try in DIMM slot 1 and leaving the computer running for an hour to give the computer time to resolve the RAM config. That didn't work either.

Is it still possible there's a setting somewhere locking access to DIMM slots 1 & 3 or is this a motherboard problem or something else? Please advise on any possible solutions.

For clarification - the RAM the PC came with is SK Hynix. The new 2x8gb suggested via the Lenovo shop based on my registered PC is actually Samsung. The possible incompatibility is a red herring as this issue is about DIMM slots 1 & 3 not working with any combination of 1 or 2 sticks of either RAM.

set the ram speed manually to 3600MHz and try again with all 4 sticks

Does the legion 5 have a cmos jumper?
install all 4 sticks
remove the cmos battery and the main battery, then press the power button for about 30seconds
 
If some of the pads on the underside of the CPU aren't making contact with the socket, it might explain the problem. On Intel LGA1700 systems, flexing of the board under clamping pressure can distort the socket leading to intermittent contact.

I've got several ancient boards where half the DIMM sockets have failed. It could be a duff board or a faulty CPU. On a brand new board, I'd be inclined to contact Lenovo and RMA the system back to them for repair or replacement under warranty.

My bios version is up to date, yet the bios options seem very barebones. No where do I see any option to adjust RAM speed or mention of XMP.

Original kit is part # HMCG66AGBUA081N (Sk Hynix)

The original kit is currently in the PC and running at 5200 MHz. According to CPU-Z, here are the timings: CL, tRCD, and tRP are 42 clocks. tRAS is 84. tRC is 125.

I used the same method you suggested during my first CMOS reset as well as the reset jumper toggle. If I can figure out how to adjust the RAM clock speed I will try all 4 sticks again after another CMOS reset.

The system does have full service for 1 year, so Lenovo will send a tech here to look at it and repair at my home. I just have little faith in the process and would prefer to fix the problem myself (if possible). I'm saving that option as a last resort if it becomes clear that it's an unfixable hardware problem.

should be in overclocking settings in BIOS

might be a faulty CPU socket, CPU, motherboard issue or the BIOS has a bug, or incompatibility issues

would test each stick in slot A2 with memtest.org from usb and if all is fine, contact Lenovo

Bios settings on this Legion computer seem to be on lockdown. Nothing to change ram speed available, unless it's tucked behind some setting related to CPU.

PC actually has a brand new problem - will rarely post while upright. Have to lay it on its side to start up reliably.
 
I just bought pretty much the same pc but with amd ryzen 5 7600 and 4060 as gpu last december (less than 3 months ago) and I have the same problem as original post but when I chatted with and called Lenovo, I was told that anything related to an upgrade was not covered under warranty so RAM slots other than the ones used on default configuration are not under warranty so having the manufacturer refund, replace or repair the PC does not appear to be a viable solution for me sadly.

pretty sure lenovo is bs never heard of a ram slots not covered under warrenty if they dont work.

that being said ryzen is very sensitive to memory and using all 4 slots can cause issues.

also mixing ram isnt advised you need a kit of 4.
