Hello,

I am trying to install windows xp sp3 onto a lenovo 3000 n200. i got the system used and do not have the passwords. i bought a copy of windows. at first windows wouldn't find the hd. i changed the hd drive from sata to ide. now, when the windows cd installs, there are files that it won't copy. and, tells me, the installation can't complete "e:\asms not available, not found". i thought it might be the dvd reader and tried an external. same thing.

any suggestions?

i try to load the copy of xp onto the existing copy of xp without formating the hd. should i do it a different way?

thanks

sam

Solution
Try new RAM, or try existing RAM one stick at a time if there is more than one.

There was a neat fix for a file copy issue I used a long time ago, involving starting a command prompt windows and running a command, but I can't seem to find it now. That method fixed file copy errors a few times for me.
