Im trying to restore my laptop to its factory settings by trying to access its advanced boot menu. however i cant seem to get into it.
I have tried f8 as well as fn + f8 and it doesnt seem to work. Any ideas?

Solution
1. Enable the LKG feature:
under the key HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Configuration Manager\LastKnownGood create a DWORD value "Enabled" and set it to 1

2. Configure how many copies of ControlSet can be created, 2 is enough.
under the key HKLM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Configuration Manager\ create a DWORD value "BackupCount" and set it to 2.

3. (Optionally) Configure the boot manager to display the old-style text boot menu.
You can do this by editing the BCD store using the following command:
BCDEdit /SET "{bootmgr}" displaybootmenu yes

4. Enable the legacy F8 menu in the Boot manager:
BCDEdit /SET "{Current}" BootMenuPolicy Legacy

You are done!
I have a Lenovo G50-80. it does have a onekey recovery button next to the power, but advanced boot menu option is not there.

There is a recovery option available. once in it says initial back up. not sure if its a factory reset or a image made after all the extra content was installed

Ok, so the pic I saw doesn't represent yours. To answer the question, if no other option is present the default recovery option is the factory image.
