Hi!

So i'm looking at a mid-range gaming laptop and the Legion Slim 5 QHD 165HZ 4060 looks like a really good option, especially as I can find it on discount.

However, because I want to hook this up to a monitor, it makes my decision a little more complicated...

The 4060 at 1440P isn't going to be great for most recent high end games and will unlikely hit the 165HZ / FPS needed to get the most of it, not to mention VRAM also, but that isn't too much of a concern for me. Also running games at 1080P on a 1440P monitor I hear isn't particulary great and unsure if there's any software / configs I can do to minimise the quality loss.

Would a standard 24-27inch 1080P 165HZ monitor work just fine with a QHD 16:10 165HZ Laptop? Are there any obvious issues I should be aware of? Any losses of display quality? Any configurations or in-built software to research?

Any ideas / recommendations are highly appreciated!

All the best

Steve

I have Acer XB270HU 1440p and 1080p in games is fine looking. 1440p isn't that taxing btw and you could always not run antialiasing (not really needed in 1440p 27") or other visual enhancements for more fps.

Keep to typical 16/9 aspect ratio as it is more adopted.

LG make fantastic monitors, even Samsung are sourcing their panels. A monitor that does 165Hz over Hdmi 2.1 so you can use VRR (Gsync) or Displayport if your laptop has USBc capable video port.

Hey Boju, appreciate the reply!

Ah ok, this is interesting...

Your monitor is quite an old spec but obviously still does a great job. I see some Youtube videos on how 1080P looks worse on 1440P monitor than a true 1080P monitor, but not sure on the actual difference.

Any ideas on newer gen monitors? 165HZ QHD seems to be really popular now.
