Hi looking to buy a desktop this spring to upgrade from a Toshiba Yoga 7 15ITLS 11th gen i5 8 gig ram. 64 bit windows 11 home 14x9” that I got from bestbuy.

Budget is flexible, I’m not sure what to look for. Maybe around $1000.

Compared to the Toshiba, I want better graphics and picture for movies and YouTube.
Slightly bigger screen.
Dvd reader.

I’m most likely going to keep the laptop and continue using it for light music track editing on reaper, and light browsing.

Not sure how to answer next few questions other than I’m in San Diego area and can’t build my own desktop.

I’m familiar with lenovo so preferably an easy to use or familiar system.

A quiet pc would be nice.
Thanks in advance.

Welcome to the forums, newcomer!

You could look into a prebuilt, maybe even an All-in-One PC and since you're familiar with Lenovo, maybe look into this listing;
https://www.lenovo.com/us/en/p/desktops/ideacentre/aio-500-series/lenovo-ideacentre-aio-gen-9-(27-inch-amd)/len102d0036
but that's essentially a laptop's internals.

You could look into this;
https://www.bestbuy.com/site/lenovo...ry-1tb-ssd-cloud-grey/6574648.p?skuId=6574648
and add this;
https://www.bestbuy.com/site/dell-s...nc-monitor-hdmi-black/6500037.p?skuId=6500037

Though you might want to wait for others to chime in as well.

Are you wanting an AIO or a desktop and monitor?
Desktop. I may want to do more on Reaper in the future compared to at the moment just track editing. For now I’m looking at graphic cards and the Lenovo idea center that’s linked above.

As for reaper, I’d only be substituting/ replacing an old 16 track, my rackmount setup engineers my tone.

Would you be confident or willing to build a PC? You’ll get better value that way

I’ll also mention the Mac mini as they’re tiny, quiet, well within budget and macs are generally quite good for audio work.

I’d be open to someone else or a company to build it.
I’m very familiar with both windows and Lenovo laptops, I don’t really feel like switching to a mac. I’m learning too much stuff at the moment.

Issue is any builder will push a PC to be very bad value for money at this price point and getting an office prebuilt isn’t compatible with getting a video card later as they generally have weak PSUs and are dimensionally challenged in terms of actually fitting a card in.
