lenovo y5070 or a pc with r9 290/equivalent setup?

well apparently , the laptop costs around 300$ extra and is performing almost the same as my pc :
i5 4670
8gig ddr3
r9 290 tri x oc

i just cant understand all this difference. the lappy is really affordable . how can dat lil puny lappy perform as same as my pc ?

my question is this : whats the point of spending $$ on a desktop when a lousy laptop can do the same with just a few extra bucks.

That laptop has only a gtx860m. NOTHING close to a 290. The 290 is more than 2x as powerful.

It's possible to run unity on a 860m but it will be at med to low settings and a lower resolution.

The performace between the 290x and the 860m is no where close to the same.
His FPS was around 24 and 25 most of the time not 30, it also possible he was flat lying about his specs.

Their gaming performance benchmarks are only at 720p, not 1080p like the 290 benchmarks. That is the reason.

It is MUCH easier to run games at lower resolutions.

At 1080p it would STRUGGLE to get 40fps at HIGH in many games while the 290 in the desktop will get more than that at ULTRA.

Unity isn't even in the list. Those are also older less demanding games and running at 720p, AC unity is much more demanding than those games.

You need to remember those games are older and NOT current at all.

There is no comparison between that laptop and an r9 290. That is the real answer to this thread.

The gtx860m is nothing compared to the r9 290. That is just a fact.

Here. You can see the r9 290 gets 68fps in Metro LL while the link you posted shows the laptop only get 28fps.

Same here The 290 gets 58 fps while the laptop gets 14.

AGAIN: Bioshock infinite. The laptop gets 65fps at ultra and the 290 gets 91.5

I have the lenovo y50 and it is pretty good; I have it. Tn panel is the only flaw, but I replaced mine no sweat (well lots of sweat, because I have the touch model which there is no help online for) If you get it and want to replace the screen message me.. The gtx 860m is the gtx 750 under clocked slightly. The amd r9 290x is neck and neck with the gtx 970. The desktop is going to be way better no matter how you dice it.
