Less memory space than the card says it has

I put a 64GB SanDisk memory card in my windows 7 computer and the computer asked me to format the memory card.

It said that all files would be lost if I continued with the format which I wasn't bothered about so I proceeded with the format and was given two options, 1st was the partition size and 2nd was memory size so I left both at the default sizes. My 64GB memory card now has only 1GB of space on it for some unknown reason to me?

Please help me...

Reformat the card, pay attention to the partition size, max them out. A 64GB card will end up being something like 55GB once formatted.
