License Key on Toshiba Restore Discs?

Hello Tom's Hardware!
First, I will say that I have been reading these forums for years, and this is just now my first post.
Anyway, in the battle to get Windows 7 to work in an Ubuntu VM, I have about won. I have used the developers copy (The one on MS's site for web developers. This allows us [I am one] to see how our websites work on IE 7, 8, and 9)
On the other side, I installed a program called Smart Defrag 2. It worked great, and I restarted my computer as normal, until one day when I hit a snag. BSOD, and it was because of a SD2 driver. I was able to remove it, and continue using 7. But, it was very, very slow. CPU and HDD at full speed. Thus, I ended up trying all Virus scanners in safe mode that I could. I finally decided to nuke 7 (But not the recovery partition) and start over. I am also a dual booter with Ubuntu, and a seperate NTFS Data Partition. But, my Toshiba Recovery discs wanted to nuke the whole drive, and I don't have any external HDDs or days to move my data around. So, I chose to leave it be and continue using Ubuntu. I tried using the Restore DVDs in a Virtualbox VM. Of course, it did not work do to it not being "Toshiba Hardware". But later I remembered the mentioned Dev Copy of 7. So I have it all downloaded, and after it getting a BSOD (I fixed that, too) 7 finally boots up. But instead of never being able to save my data, I would like to put in my license key (for these copies only last for 90 days at max) so I can keep my installed applications, data, and anything else I put on there. Since I no longer have 7, I figured I would use that OEM key. Now, I understand it won't work and all of that. But, I cannot read the license key numbers, since they have rubbed off. Toshiba told me when I called them that the license number for 7 is inside of the restore DVDs. Being there are 5 DVDs, IDK where it would be. So, to sum up my story (and, stop using these things), where on the disc would my License number be.
Most of this is just background information, but, all I need to know is where my License number is on the discs. We don't have any other Windows computers in the house, two macs, and then this Ubuntu only machine ATM. The Recovery Partition is still there, but the system files were all nuked and reformatted to NTFS.
So, anybody have any ideas?

Hi

Toshiba (or other large PC manufacturers) Manufacturers OEM Windows 7 disks do not require activation so do not need you to enter a license key.

The installation process & anti piracy system checks the motherboard is a Toshiba Motherboard every time the PC starts up.
Microsoft could issue a license key which gets round this problem but probably wont.
( Microsoft once let me transfer a Hard disk from a Dell PC with a dead motherboard into a new non Dell PC)

As other people have said the license key on the Toshiba Windows label wont enable Windows to work on any PC, virtual or real

How about using Parted Magic or G-Parted to shrink the linux partition to leave space for Windows c: (make no change to recovery partition D: which has files used by recovery disk builder)

Format C: as NTFS then see if recovery disks will recover to C: without wiping Linux partition

I may be wrong (check with Toshiba)
On a new or blank hard disk the recovery process creates boot manager partition, C: (windows) and D: (recovery)

but if C: exists only re writes windows on C:

I missed your post the first time through Mike. But this is almost exactly right. The only thing you left out is that the Royalty OEM windows disks auto install a SLP key and the certificate that then triggers the read of the bios table for offline activation. All three must be present or the activation will fail. But like you said, a Toshiba disk would do this automatically.

It could work in a VM envirnment IF windows can read the bios table while in the VM.

So corrytonapple, it might work in the VM if you can get the toshiba image, or at least the SLP key and certificate on there. And it would be legal I believe since you would have one windows install on one licensed machine.

As said, just because you have never done it does not mean it is not possible. I have used MS software for years, and these scare tactics are not new to me. I am not pretending to know more than I do. I have seen it done! But, because you need a feelgood sensation, you cannot break down with the thought that someone did something you didn't. I know you have my key, great for you. If you don't, oh well. Won't take long to get it if I keep searching. But all I asked for was a general pointer. I did not need anybody to publish it, and I don't need anybody to tell me why it won't work. I acknowledged that fact, thus if it does not work, then that's my issue. You told me, and then you were right (I know that warm feeling on the inside of you is lighting up with the thought of that now, isn't it?).
I've used MS software for a few years. I have been using macs for close to six years now, and Linux for 1. Before that, I did not really learn anything or try to. I just used the computer to get what I wanted done.
Me arguing with me and myself? I'm not arguing with Austin here. If I am, show me where! I did ask for info, but I said that telling me it won't work isn't that info. The info was where on that DVD was the key. Even what disc to look on would be helpful.
As for the entertainment, I'll tell you kid, I am by no means losing time on this. I am just continuing on with my life, and getting a good joke out of the crap you put. But, the point in this thread was not to start an argument, nor a giant joke.
Just ask a mod if me and Austin have the same IP or have ever logged in from anywhere but our IPs. I highly encourage it. Now somebody who is pretending wouldn't tell you that, would they?

While we are on the topic, What have you seen done? You keep saying "I have seen it done". Seen what done? An OEM or COA key activated? They are supposed to work that way. They are NOT SLP keys.
